Red Line Problem in Toshiba Regzas I'm writing this review in the hope of preventing the huge headache that happened to myself.before buying one do an online search for .. Toshiba red line you'll change your mind.After researching many sites including consumer reports going to multiple stores to compare picture quality and checking prices many times I finally figured out that the best tv for the money was the Toshiba Regza. Besides how can you go wrong with a Japanese product?Well the TV was joyous great picture easy operation all was perfectUNTIL.!!!!!!A vertical red line started to show up on the left side of my screen when I turned it on.It would disappear after 10 minutes so it wasn't a big deal.I would have had Toshiba fix it but it was 2 years and 2 months too long for both the warranty AND the extended warranty I got.Well the red line shows up longer and longer time. 1/2 hour 45 minutesIt pops up in the middle of a movie for 10 minutes for no reasonFor me it's a big glaring flaw in my otherwise perfect picture.I did a search and found out that ALOT of Toshiba TV buyers are having his problem.
Outstanding TV Had it almost a year and it is awesome. Matching BDX2000 BluRay player sucks though. Sound distorts and Toshiba put me off until warranty ran out.
Everything You Want in an HDTV I bought this TV in June 2010 and haven't had a single issue with it. At the time I got it for $700 plus tax which was and still is a great value for a 46inch 1080p LCD. More than a year later I'm still very pleased. The sound does improve noticeably with an HDMI connection even more so than the picture. The HD quality is nearperfect. The TV is best viewed straight on 1012 feet away but is perfectly fine even from extreme angles. The TV itself is stylish sleek and not too heavy. I hope to have it for several years.
I LOVE THIS TV I absolutely love this TV in spite of the completely poor sound it gives. My husband and I purchased this knowing that we'd have a surround sound system so I can't say I've heard the actual sound the TV gives in a long time. However my inlaws have the same TV and until we recently got them the Philips HSB2313A Soundbar [] they were having regular issues with the TV's sound quality. After some time of watching TV the sound would become distorted and the only way to alleviate the problem was to turn it off and back on. There was a time when that wouldn't work so the TV was just left off. Having a sound system with HDMI hookups is probably the only solution. Having said all of that the picture quality is amazing. Obviously the picture is only as good as what you're watching on it and since Time Warner isn't THAT great and does 1080i at best it's somewhat decent. In comparison to watching welltransferred blu ray on our awesome PS3 the picture quality is nothing short of spectacular. I think Tron Legacy is my favorite thing to watch on it though I'm probably biased by the amazing sound quality also.
DISGUSTED! We bought this TV 1 1/2 years ago and it decided to act up 2 days after the 1 year warranty was up! Once we checked on the warranty we kept hoping that it was the fact that we weren't using an HDMI cable so we bought one. THat didn't help the main problem we were having. The first thing that showed up was a red line down the left side of the screen eventually turned green and blue.
Great HDTV for a Great Price! I've had this TV now for almost 6 months so I felt I could give it a pretty accurate review.First I use this TV with a PS3 plugged through the HDMI with seriously high quality Monster cables and the picture is amazing. I also have a Comcast HD package and the HDTV looks pretty nice especially for sports but not nearly as high quality as the BluRay Comcast is apparently 1080i whereas the PS3 is 1080p. The sound is decent from the speakers on the TV much better than most. I listen to cable programming via the TV speakers and listen to the PS3/BluRay through a surround sound system. I mean what can you really expect from TV speakers? I remember when they used to be on the back of televisions!The TV is durable I have moved once and it survived!. The only beef I really have is with the remote. It's terrible. It barely works unless it's pointed right at the TV and even then I have to mash power several times for it to turn off. The inputs are kind of a pain to scroll through.
TV Shipping was not on time. Product confusing to setup. Once done the TV is excellent. Good picture and color and a joy to use.
screen flickers randomly when powered on We purchased one ~ 2 months ago and had it delivered. Now at random intervals the picture flickers when it is turned on. Turning off and then back on again fixes the problem but I'm still going to send it in for repair/ replacement.
Beware Bought this TV 2.5 years ago. Right away had problems with the DirecTV remote. Had to move the DirecTV box away from TV and use a long HDMI cable. The sound gets buzzy and muffled after several hours of use. This can be corrected by turning the TV off and back on again. Not a big deal just a pain. Then the HDMI 1 input is going out and you have wiggle the cable to fix it. Now HDMI 2 is getting the same problem. This TV has been a pain since I bought it and I'm going to replace soon.
Overall very pleased I have had my Toshiba 46XV645U TV for about a week now. It replaced an old RCA projection TV that was HD ready and actually had a decent picture in HD bur nothing like the newer tv's I had seen. I was lucky enough to find the TV at Walmart for $699 plus tax with free shipping to my house. It was packaged very well with the factory carton inside a very heavy shipping carton. Delivery was by FedX. The TV is ready to place where you want it when you get it out of the shipping carton's as the stand is already attached to the TV. While my wife put the batteries in the remote I plugged it in and attached the HDMI cable from my Directv HD DVR and was ready to go. After a short read of part of the manual and determining that the picture setting should be on native for the best HD picture we both were amazed at the picture quality.

It broke I didn't get the TV from Amazon. I got this from Walmart on May 2011. I can not find the page any more and I decide to leave my comments here.I was watching TV last night and then suddenly the picture stopped and shook a little. Then there is all black. I try to switch the channel or switch the input but failed. It's obviously that the TV is broken. I cannot even turn it off from my remote. I have to unplug the power cable.I don't use this TV often. From May to December 2011 the TV is used less than 300 hours. I saw the saw the experience of replacing the TV in the comments. It makes me speechless. I don't want to waste my time to do this.The TV is 42 inch it's not a phone or something that's easy to ship back. You really don't have many choices when it's broken. You really have to be care about this. Once it's broken then it's over. I found the page in warmart now and I found a lot of comments complaining the broken TV after 5 6 month. This is really bad product and I think that company do this intently. They sell a lot and got lots of good comments then people go for it because of the good comments.I have to say before it's broken everything is fine and I was glad. Except the remote has to point to the TV receiver in an exactly angle without anything blocking it. I don't think any remote would be that difficult to control. But this is a small bug.
A little disappointed Has pretty good picture for the price. The T.V. apparently isn't compatible with my Xbox 360 Elite when using HDMI cables but is when I use the component cables. Sound could be better but not much to be expected from most LDC or LED T.V.s. Any one have any ideas on how to get my 360 to work with the HDMI would love to hear it and would rate the television higher.
LOVE! I bought this TV From a different store and for much C*H*E*A*P*E*R but I would say that this TV is a STEAL! I went through dozens and dozens of reviews for different TV's and this one is definitely worth it and don't be scared off by it's unknown brand or lack of reviews. This baby is AMAZING all my friends with other 1080 HDTV's are envious of how incredibly beautiful the picture is in comparison to theirs. Blurays on this bad boy make the skin on the actors look like it's right there infront of you in the room! A few reviews I read said that there were problems with the sound the only one I noticed was when I first got it it was quiet but after about a week it was completely fine. Don't know how or what changed but my sound snob friends think their good built in speakers one in particular noticed the change as well.

Great tv overall. Great tv overall. A few quirks nothing major although for some might be deal breakers. I've owned this tv for about 4 months now and works like a champ. Out of box set up. Did not even have to attach stand as it was already attached. One major plus the stand swivels so that you can view tv perfectly from practically anywhere in the room. I attached to my 51 surround system but had to do audio out via the headphone set up this so that I can watch regular tv with stereo and louder sound bought a cheap splitter to do so. TV has 4 HDMI INputs component and composite but no outputs other than headphone. That was the biggest bummer for me until I figured out a workaround the splitter which I've just discussed. Picture and sound phenomenal when I play DVD Avatar blew me away and I had seen it several times on my old LCD tv it couldn't compete. Try to get on sale. Best value for the money out there in terms of 42 LCD HDTV.
Good Budget TV! Pros HD content from my PC and DirecTV is stutter free with vivid colors and clarity. 120Hz works pretty good with HD only but I've seen better I turn this feature off when not viewing HD. Sound is good for regular TV viewing but lack low frequencies which is expected. You are not going to get a better HDTV for this price. $438 shipped!Cons The TV came slanted sitting on the stand which was really annoying but I placed some holders under the left side to make it parallel/level to the ground. I came from using a 37 Westy 60Hz where the text displaying from PC via HDMI were clear while the displayed text on the HANNSpree looks a little distorted but it is still ledgible. SD content looks worse compared to prior.Other Thoughts Get a HDMI Surround Sound Receiver if your going to complain about sound coming from cell phone size stereo speakers. I dont understand why people lists the 3.5mm audio out as a Con when they already knew this prior to purchase. If not the fault lies with you for not doing the research but getting a HDMI Receiver will resolve this issue also.
I do love this TV but it has its issues. Before I got the Hannspree LCD I had an Olevia HD that was starting to show its age. I wanted an update but didn't want to spend a whole lot because I was a few months away from a crosscountry move & didn't want to risk an exorbitantly expensive TV breaking during the trek. So I picked up this Hannspree retail for only about $350. Great deal I must say. I had never heard of the brand prior to the purchase but it had solid reviews for the price. I wasn't expecting much so I was HUGELY impressed when I finally checked it out.The picture clarity is beautiful. The colours are vibrant the depth is fantastic and if you have a Blu ray player you'll finally see why Blu rays are an improvement over DVD.

Love my sony Purchased this in March 2009 for bedroom. Was easy to set up and install channels from Comcast. Had no problems. I have on fireplace mantel and it fits fine. I've not dabbled in a lot of the features and settings as I'm a basic user. There's a slight delay in turning on and showing the picture which just takes some getting use to. The sound is great. I don't notice any picture change from different angles however I view fairly head on. The only thing I still don't like is the use of the remote control.

Died in less than 2.5 years I bought the TV in April 2009. I will say I was generally happy with it. Had to play with the antenna sometimes to get the reception which was a bit strange since I live within a few miles of the transmitters but others have told me that is a problem with digital TVs. I also don't think the design of the remote is very user friendly but I made do.The big problem just happened Sept 2011 less than 2.5 years the TV just died as I was watching it. No picture no sound an LED blinks that searching the web means some type of short circuit. Sony support via online chat could only tell me to take it to a repair place. The closest authorized one wants $75 just for an estimate.
Great picture in brightly lit room Wanted a small HDTV that would fit in a cabinet opening finally settled on this Sony Bravia 720p with some trepidation as I have a 1080p set from another brand in the living room and thought that the picture quality might be less than I was becoming accustomed to. Turns out I didn't need to worry the picture is beautiful sharp and clear. Seems every bit as realistic as the 1080p Sharp Aquos in the other room.The room it sits in gets a lot of sunlight but the picture is bright and colorful and unaffected unless we open the blinds and put sunlight directly on the screen. I like the favorites setting and the unit is fairly easy to operate. If I could figure out how to make the remote also control my Dish unit it would be even easier to operate. Nothing really to complain about with this HDTV.
Great TV!!! It's a Sony so it's automatically a good product. Purchase it for $100.00 cheaper than in stores.
Recurring problem with Bravias This is a nice TV great for general use for the most part. The one issue that it fails at and on epic proportions is the internal computer. I have a recurring problem with two different bravias but I'm only writing the review for this one. The entire screen will dim when a dark scene is present. If you're watching Star Wars and the screen is showing a picture of space the dark picture will cause the tv to dim the entire screen. You've no idea how maddening this is. So beware. Sony makes other good TVs but after the runaround I got from support my suggestion is to stay clear of this one.
It Works For Me My husband and I purchased this TV way back in 07/2008. Out of curiosity I decided to look it up on here. I was reading this one and two star reviews and I am baffled. It's worked just fine for us. Great in fact. No problems with itor hardly any. The sound is fine plenty loud even too loud at times. My one and only complaint is that we recently noticed this weird dark line towards the center of the screen. It appeared when my husband was trying to fix the picture so it fit the screen. A problem I blame on my cable not my TV as it started the picture not fitting after I had an issue with my cable box and rebooted it. Then suddenly the picture wasn't fitting there was dark empty space all around. Well my husband came home recently and decided on a lark to attempt to fix it.
Its A Good TV Nicely priced TV for sonyit works pretty well. It has a good selection of inputs on the back including 2 component rows.2 HDMI and 2 Composite/RCA.The only things wrong with it though is there is no optical digital audio plug and the tv takes like 20 seconds to boot upand there's an annoying feature i think its supposed to be energy efficient but the tv darkens slightly when you turn out the lights making whats going on look a little less visible.
Sony Bravia KDL26M4000 great for its size and price Too bad Sony is not selling the 26 television sets anymore. This size is the best for a small studio or apartment. The KDL26M4000 is one of the best featured Sony television sets to date. I purchased this model from Amazon.com at the beginning of 2009 few months before the digital broadcasting switch. At the same time I switched from cable subscription to the overtheair antenna. As such this Sony TV set model has behaved flawlessly. To overcome the weak sound issue I hooked a wireless headphones set and/or a simple and affordable stereo set of speakers with great success.The only important trouble coming to this and maybe other Sony Bravia models set is when one scans or rescans for broadcast channels during or after completion of scanning the TV set is freezing to the point where no options buttons will respond.I did freaked out thinking that's it! I am without TV now. Went outside took a walk trying to figure it out My room antenna is routed via the DVD player into the TV set.

Fantastic Picture After reading previous reviews I have to say I Did Not buy this set for it's wireless capabilities. I bought it as both a TV and a computer monitor. My computer having a 4gb video card and a fantastic HD sound card. This television rocks having it running through my computer via the digital optical connection. I also have it hardwired using Ethernet connection. All of the apps work perfectly although I utilize my Netflix and my Amazon Prime movies running through my computer for pure digital sound.Although this is Amazon I bought my tv through Sams club because it was only $545. I had to write a review simply because so many people were bad mouthing this set and it is a beautiful HD television with a beautiful full 1080P picture. The remote covers everything necessary and getting the updates through Philips online were a snap. After shopping for a 40 HD set with 1080P and 120Hz for over two months I feel lucky to accidentally fall into this great deal.
This TV ROCKS! I purchased this tv at Costco for the amazing price of $599.99. It was bought as a replacement for my Hitachi Plasma that was stolen in a house burglary. I was a bit skeptical at first but Costco has such an amazing return policy 90 days I went for it . My kids and I cannot believe how crisp and clear the picture is. We hooked up the laptop last night and watched Netflix and we were very impressed with the picture quality. Although it may not have all the bells and whistles that Sony or others may possess this tv gives you more bang for the buck! I also own an Aquos 37 lcd and the pictures don't even begin to compare and I paid over twice the amount I paid for the Phillips.
3 stars for TV zero for wifi 3 stars if you are looking for an okay TV at a low price but zero stars if looking for a WIFI capable TV as this one claims to be. I bought it at Walmart a month ago for $600. they no longer carry it and I think I know why but if you can find one at that price and just want a TV I say go for it.However if you want to use any WIFI Internet features that are plastered all over the box I would suggest you forget it. I just brought mine back to Walmart for a refund after going back and forth with Philips customer service since day one. It turns out that this model needs a software update and a media connect kit with a WIFI dongle to connect to the Internet. I noticed that all the positive Internet comments on this model where hard wired and not WIFI and that is something I just did not want to do. Philips will send the dongle out to you free of charge but it is always on back order. I finally got mine this week and after many calls and three hours on the phone with Philips useless customer service I gave up. I'm not new to installing TV's and I did everything that they said to do. Including having to use my zip drive to upgrade the software something that all the other TV's I have owned did on their own. Then closely following the directions with the dongle and still ending up with no WIFI connection.
Hmm Works for me Received as a Christmas Present. Sams Club has these as one time buys at $578. Seems like a killer deal considering the price listed here and even at Best Buy was $1000.TV was easy for me to setup. It's thin it's lightweight 40lbs and looks fairly attractive for a TV no weird angle pieces of plastic hanging off it. Menu's do look very cheesy but are easy to navigate. I have not yet done a full customization of settings on the TV but the OE configurations seems fairly well for color. None of the people it's displayed so far look like pink lobstersSound was on the quiet side as seems normal with a lot of TVs so I turned the true volume or whatever on and sound is a lot louder now without having to turn it up to the moon.Date of manufacture on mine was June 2011. I'll have to check for any firmware updates.Mine came with the wireless usb dongle and I had no issues connecting it to my wireless network.
Awesome HDTV technology at any price ! I've had this TV for 3 weeks and it is an awesome HDTV at any price. The firmware download from Philips' website is a Very Necessary thing to do but it's a breeze! Just download the upgrade file onto a flash drive and stick the flashdrive into the TV's USB port .
Terrible. now have 2nd replacement and still no Wifi My Husband bought this tv for me as a surprise after major surgery as I would be bedridden for months. During lucid moments I have tried in vain to get the net tv to work. I finally hooked up my Netgear powerline adapters and could then get on Netflix intermittently. After two weeks I could no longer get anywhere with the NetTv. Then I ran a wire from the adapter to the router and still nothing. Support said it was because I did not have a dongle. I tried to tell her it was the network card. She said there is no network card in the tv. I just need the dongle. uhmmm. okaaayy . lol. but whatever.. Dongle came. and tada! NO NetTv! Got a more knowledgeable tech support helper who after over two hours of testing. And me manually putting in my IP DNS etc. came to the conclusion that the tv was no good. So today I got the replacement. and still nothing. Wired wireless. Nothing.. If you want a tv with a nice picture this is fine. but don't pay the extra money for a tv that promises NetTv and then doesn't deliver. They said public relations would be calling me in a couple of days. All those who gave this tv a 5 star rating. I can see that you didn't want it for the wifi Which is what the tv is touted as having. I did.. so I could put my Roku out in the living room so the rest of the family could access movies and thought I would have the pleasure of being able to watch movies while I convalesced right from my New TV! I want a different tv but it appears I am stuck with this one.
Amazing TV with plenty of inputs. I got this TV for Christmas from my brother and I am still in love with it. Not only does this TV offer a splendid picture but it also has room to grow. Our HTPC blurays and Fios HD channels look sharp and crisp on it and video games do not lag whatsoever. It still impresses me everytime I throw something on. If you're on the fence whether to purchase this TV or not just do it.

My Girl friend bought this tv the other day as a replacement for her samsung 40 lcd after a burglery we shopped and looked at several models and it came down to this another samsung for more $ a LG for more.she considered some lesser brands bit for the money this was it .
Great television! We bought this television in November of 2010.It was super simple to set up for regular television viewing DVD/VCR watching watching movies/television through a laptop and playing the Wii.Setting it up for Netflix was a little trickier as I couldn't figure out how to get it on out network.
4 stars for the TV would have been 5 stars if the WiFi worked I bought this TV 40pfl7705dv from Sam's Club for $578 great deal compared to what it is selling for on Amazon because it fit my budget and had Flat Screen TV features I was looking for. We switched from an old traditional TV to this flat screen so we were blown away by the picture quality especially HD. So far we love the TV no complaints other than the WiFi. Our TV is in the living room and the wireless router is in the office around 40 feet apart and 2 walls in between the WiFi did not work called Philips and lady said that for WiFi to work the router has to be in the same room not more than 25 feet away and no walls inbetween I think this is also mentioned in the owners manual. Which I think is ridiculous since my laptop gets excellent signal same spot as TV. Anyway she recommended I buy a power line adapter. So I bought the NETGEAR XETB1001 85Mbps Powerline Network Adapter Kit from buy.com for $70 after that the internet connection worked great and I am able to watch Netflix HD movies without any interruption. So even though the WiFi did not work we are happy with the TV I think the price was slashed probably because they received a lot of complaints of WiFi not working.Also we did not see any lag DirecTV HD DVDs Netflix HD between the picture and sound as had been mentioned in some previous post.Fyi I also bought the Omni Mount OB120FM from Sam's Club but when I tried to attach the wall mount adapters in the Configuration 3 X the lower adapters were too long so had to saw off part of the lower adapters and then it worked perfectly.

Comparison with Sharp 4206 I've now had both the 42 Sharp 4206DU and a Samsung 40 S4095D both 1080p for nearly a year and I definitely prefer the Sharp. I'm not a total technogeek nor someone who has to have the biggest most awesome home theater setup so this review is for your average couch potato who is nevertheless able to hear and see small differences in television video and audio quality.First of all let me say that the difference between high definition and standard definition television viewing is huge. With a high definition broadcast and television you can see details that are simply amazing. I find myself watching cake decorating challenges on food network's high def channel just to look at the light shining off tiny little drops of sugar sculpture or frosting. Watching a poker tournament is a whole different experience you can see every pore on a player's nose and every bead of sweat on his forehead. My mother's first comment on seeing a broadcast in high definition on the Sharp was that she would never want to be filmed in high definition. You can see every wrinkle.On the down side highdefinition set standard broadcasts look worse than they do on a CRT although not by much. You can see the difference by switching between a network news program's high and standard definition broadcasts. The difference is staggering. If however you're not going to get a highdefinition signal right away or play games on a current game module or watch a lot of DVDs on a high definition DVD player then there is no sense spending your money now on a high definition television. If you know you want a highdefinition set then the question is which one to buy. Of all the sets that I looked at and I checked out a LOT of them in the 3742 range the Sharp was the best buy. The Sony XBrite was the best looking set no question but not worth the substantially higher price one would have to pay for it. If money is really no object by all means go for the Sony. Otherwise the Sharp is the one I'd choose.The Sharp was the first high def t.v. I got and then when I wanted a second television I got the Samsung. Watching these sets with a DISH network satellite signal and a good but nonhigh def DVD player here's why I like the Sharp betterSIZEI initially had the Sharp in a small bedroom about 8 1/2 feet from where it would be viewed.
Broke just after 1 year warranty expired The TV screen that I paid a fortune for broke after 13 months of owning it. The warranty had just expired and Samsung told me tough luck. One minute were watching tv and the next the screen turns purple and for the past week hasn't changed just a nice purple screen with a few white lines through it. The techs that came to look at it said the entire panel needed to be replaced but couldn't really explain why. I've now searched the net and found numerous other instances of this issue. Basically the tv that I spent $2500 on is now worthless. I HIGHLY recommend that you choose another TV this is a common malfunction. Malfunctions are fine when you buy a cheap tv but not one for $2500!!! I'll NEVER buy anything Samsung again.
Great TV This is a great tv. I was worried about having a large electronic item shipped to me but the delivery personnel brought it in set it in place gave us time to test it and hauled away the box. The only issue I have with this tv is that it is not fully compatible with DirecTV's satellite service in 1080i. For the time being all of our programming is in 720. This information came directly from the installer when we asked why the reception was not in 1080i. Hopefully this issue will be addressed soon.
Picture great poor reliability low quality audio weird feature design I agree with all the previous comments this TV has a great picture.However I have some negative remarksWithin 5 hours of delivery it started smelling hot and one of the audio channels blew. Samsung service was fine. Within a day or two they had a guy at my house. Within a week or so he had the part and had fixed the problem.Now 6 months after purchase the screen has died. There is no picture at all and again the set smells hot. I've called in the problem. Hopefully their service will again be good.The two Sony TVs I've owned both lasted well over a decade with absolutely no problems. Two major problems in 6 months I think this Samsung set's reliability is very low. Make sure you buy from a reputable dealer with a real manufacturer's warranty.Regarding the audio the builtin speaker design is pretty poor. I suspect that Samsung expects all users to connect external speakers. The builtin ones do not provide clear reproduction spoken word is hard to understand particularly at low volumes. I suggest you listen to this set before buying if you plan to use the builtin speakers.The set has a nice set of features to enlarge letterboxed images to fill the screen. However it only works with the Svideo signal from my satellite receiver. It does not work with the HDMI output of my DVD player it stretches the image horizontally but not vertically.
nightmare with Samsung I bought the TV in March 2007 it worked well for a few months and then the screen went blank from Aug.Sept. Called the customer service and they assigned me a repair shop who took the TV back for over a month but didn't do anything except leaving scratches all over the places on both the back cover and the bezel the beautiful black shining frame I loved most. I called Samsung customer service and they assigned me another service shop which quickly identified the problem with the LCD panel. The service will order a new LCD panel but Samsung refused to do anything to fix the plastic over and the bezel. I called Samsung customer services many times but they just do not care.Now the TV has been bad for two months and I am still waiting for it to be repaired and they just do not want to do anything for the damaged bezel. My TV is only a few months old and is still covered by manufacturer's warranty.I thought this expensive TV as a reliable product and with good customer service but obviously I was wrong for both. I will never buy any Samsung product again.
Great Picture Great Service I have had this TV for over a year now and could not be happier. The HD picture is incredible and human tones look 100% accurate. Ive seen a lot of TVs since making this purchace and the quality of the LNS4095 is second to none.Recently I noticed a black line that ran horizantally accross the screen about a quarter of the way down. I called Samsung customer service and they told me that I was a week out of warranty but not to worry because they typically extend warranty repairs by two months so I was completely covered. This is huge because it turned out that the entire panel needed to be replaced $1500. Everything was repaired at no cost to me and Samsumg could not have been more accomidating.I will never by another brand.
one of the first solid and reasonably priced true 1080p HDTVs I bought this in May 2007 for 1700 delivered. At the time it was the best and most reasonably priced 1080p HDTVs.Pros price is better than any other brand offering the same features picture quality even in nonhd is very good and quite configurable fabulous HDTV picture really easy to set up and learn to use all the neat features on the remote beautiful looking unit speaker placement at bottom keeps the unit width down so can fit a larger LCD in smaller spaces.Cons the sound leveling option simply does not work which is very frustrating when every channel runs at a different volume. The speakers really are bad they vibrate with high bass settings so must keep the bass down. You had better have a surround sound system if you get this tv. 8rms isn't really fast enough for me in 480i noticeable artifacts. In HD the artifacts are barely noticeable and in game mode which speeds up the rms but is only available for dvds and games is much better and wish it was used full time for tv too. It doesn't have a seeing eye to automatically adjust picture brightness based on the room brightness so you have to adjust it yourself using the energy saver button on the remote which has 4 levels. I kinda wish I'd held out for a model that has a QAM tuner and cablecard slot so I'd have more options for HDTV because I really don't want a clunky set top box QAM tuner and yet another remote at allhow 1970s! I'd like to get a cable dvr stb which would negate the need for a QAM tuner in the tv however they are currently so huge one wouldn't even fit on the cabinet shelf with my other components so I'm waiting 'till more sleek models become available. Lastly the remote however easy has the buttons really poorly placed and the tactical design is horrible can't use this one without actually looking at itever! I much prefer the buttons in the circle to be the main channel and volume buttons with the prevchannel and fav channels buttons just above it and the number pad directly above them. The least they could have done was make the volume and channel buttons true rockers all the buttons feel the same.
LCD TV I couldn't be happier unless I could afford a larger screen I am a direct TV customer and the picture is great in HD. Now I really want to upgrade the rest of my stuff.
is this realy 1080p? I bought this TV back in 2007. I was very happy with the TV until I bought a Blueray player yesterday. When I set Sony blueray DVD player to 1080p resolution output test screen show up fine. However when the Blueray player start playing blueray DiscCSamsung 1080p TV keeps searching singal but not display one bit on the screen. I have another Sony 1080P TV in the house so I move the blueray player to Sony TV where crispy picture show up.

It has only one HDMI connection but it is enough for me.
shade for words Hi I got the samsung LN40C500 but it has kind of shade for popup words which tells what's the program showing now for this channel when I change the channel from one to another. I am using Time Warner Cable. The pictures somtimes also have kind of shade or double picture. Also I see some very thin lines on the screen sometimes. Do you guys have the same problem. Is it relavent to what kind of cable you are using.My friend has a LN46C630 and he is using Roku and Netflix. He said his TV has good picture.
Samsung HDTV I purchased this TV during a Black Friday sale at Best Buy for $497 so I've had it for a few months. So far it has been great! I only have basic cable with no HD channels so the picture quality isn't spectacular in that respect. BluRay on the other hand looks awesome as do DVDs. Excellent color and definition. Streaming Netflix was surprisingly crisp and clear especially the HD movies and shows. At 40 inches watching television has become much more enjoyable compared with our previous 20in tube. Sound quality is good we frequently listen to Pandora via our BluRay player. The swivel is a nice feature as well. Only one HDMI port but not a problem with adapters/splitters I only have the BluRay attached anyway. There weren't many reviews in November as this was a relatively new product at that time and I was a bit leery with my purchase initially. But Samsung is considered to be an excellent TV producer and I wasn't let down.
Samsung HDTV comes through again Samsung is definitely the way to go for flat screen tvs. I have the 52 LCD in my main tv room and I purchased the 40 LCD for my bedroom. The picture is very crisp and the samsung prices are always reasonable.
Don't waste your hard earned $$ I purchased mine at Sears for $499.00 . It has had an issue since day one but I did not know it because I attributed the problem to the cable company! The reception would be really bad the sound would go on and off on and off the picture would be snowy on and off and I would get a window that said weak or no signal.Like the car that makes a funny noise but not when you take it the mechanic.This TV did not do it all the time. As time went on it got worse. As it turned out the problem is that the antenna port has something wrong withit and does not allow the cable to go all the way in which results in a poor connection/reception. Of course Samsung was not about to do anything about it as it was one month out of the warranty. The only thing it is good for now is watching movies! I am going back to SONY they have served me well over the years . I will never buy a Samsung product again.

Looks good. Great Colors. Blu rays looks great. I think I was noticing some motion trailsghosting but only from certain Optimum HD channels in Westchester NY. Also saw some of the same with a couple blu rays but I have yet to pinpoint the problem and I HAVE seen the same thing on a couple different branded hdtvs in my house. Definitely some pixelation during fast action. All of these same things i noticed on an $900 Sony 120 hz model from a year ago. I just turned off digital nr in picture settings digital noise reduction and film mode to see what happens. Looks great as a computer monitor.
No such thing as ConnectShare on this model! I called Samsung to resolve the ability to play videos via USB Flash Drive. They advised that the TV was not made to do such a thing. The rep advised me that she has NO IDEA what ConnectShare is.
Samsung TV Review It's ok for the price I paid. If you can afford it get a 120 or 240 HZ I highly recommend it. There is a big difference in the Bluray picture quality. This TV is only a 60 HZ.
Good TV for the money Purchased for a kids playroom and works great. Is not an everyday TV use however works great for what I need it for. Only negative it that it only has 1 HDMI port in I have my DVD player using this port as I do not have a HD cable box for that room.

Samsung 4096D Just got this TV in yesterday. 8 May 07 Here's my total experience. Hopefully after reading this mininovel you can gain some insight and this will help you decide on your HD/LCD/TV. I gain nothing from promoting or slamming this TV so here's my opinion. The HD picture is excellent. The sound is pretty good. The picture/screen/view is fantastic. A lot of reviews have been slamming the sound pretty hard but it's not that bad. It's clear and accurate. It's just not the sound you might be used to from an older console or CRT type television where there is plenty of room to install a big speakeranyway sound is fine.
Great needs better sound better remote. Pros Very nice TV great subtle black look excellent HD picture lots of inputs lots of fine tuning options for better sound and great picture good price great stand Vanns/Amazon was very quick..Complaints Very poor sound needs some sort of external help. HD channels are very clear but still bars on the top and/or sides. Need to use the zoom picture size to fill whole screen and lose a little of the picture on top/bottom. All these 169 TVs seem to do this. The cable guy said it is because this is an 1080p TV and there are no broadcasts in 1080p yet so nothing fits exactly right. I don't know if I believe this. YellowFreight delivery company said I had to stand in my driveway so they could find my house??? He drove right by then called up my wife and started screaming. I live in a numbered house on a busy road very very easy to find yellowfreight just blows.
defective tv I bought this new TV to go with my new house/tv unit/sofa etc. This was the last item to arrive on my shopping list for the new house. Was excited to receive it. However after the cable guy came to install cable TV starteded to act up. First 15min of viewing was fine with very crisp pictures. After 15min HD channels started to freeze up. So I switched to SD channels all were fine initially. However after another 15min or so similar thing started happening. We first saw lines/waves showing on screen then picture started to freeze.At first we thought it was the cable box that was bad. We then tried 2nd cable box same problem persists. We tried using different component cables different inputs hooking up coaxial directly to tv rather than the cable box. Same thing. At last we tried the dvd player lines/waves also start appearing. At this point we came to the conclusion that the TV could be defective.[]Anyway to make the story short I am finally able to return the TV to amazon for a refund. Aside from the email that I received from their specialty dept I am pleased with amazon's customer service.
4096 Sammy is rrreal nice Clark. Great tv as expected. I don't know about you guys but buying such an expensive television online not tangible made me very nervous. The price vs. risk/reward was worth it and so far it has worked out perfectly. I saved 5600 dollars buying from Amazon over the local CC or BB. Bought a $80 Peerless mount from Mounts and More hung it up and it looks incredible. Standard def programs look very good considering it is a 1080p high def tv trying to process and display a regular crappy cable signal. I truely believe for the price I paid it is the best bang for the buck in the 40 lcd category. I sit approximately 1016 feet from the set and it is plenty big. I personally think people are buying much bigger TV than they need and what they don't realize is that with most HD big screen tv's 40 and up the picture is pretty fuzzy from close up. Some of manufacturer's viewing distances are a bit low in my opinion. If you're getting a 50 or bigger you better be sitting 15 feet away at the closest spot. Anyway this Sammy is really a good piece of work quick changes between inputs razor sharp hd picture nearly equally sharp standard dvd picturepscan and very good standard def picture. Picture and picture is great I can watch one half from the digi cable box and on the other half is the standard cable picture per a splitter. It only has 1 tuner but that's all you need for most PIP users. Remote is good but I don't use it. I use my receiver remote that learns keys.
Refurb. Samsung is still not working When we first plugged in the TV we were impressed with the picture but soon the screen started to scramble and stayed that way for 5 to 10 minutes. It went back to normal for a bit but continued to scramble. We called Amazon were of course routed to a foreign country and after 30 minutes was finally told that we had to contact Samsung directly. The TV was barely under warrenty since it was a refirb. and the TV has been at a local repair shop for three weeks now with no return date in sight.

It may be a great TV but .. I placed an order that was accepted by Butterfly Photo. A week leater I got an email saying they wanted to substitute a better model LNT4065F. I checked the Internet and found I could buy the better model 4065F at a price more than $200 less than my original price for the LNS4096D.
Best Premium LCD I was deciding between the Samsung lns4096 and the sony xbr2. After comparing televisions i was really impressed with the samsung. It is just as sexy and you get more bang for your buck.The only retailer that carried it was Magnolia at Best Buy and it was priced at $2500. When i saw it advertised on Amazon for $1900 with shipping and tax included i couldnt resist. This tv is awesome. Ive had it side by side with my brothers new xbr2 and the samsung has a better picture. I have an hd dvr from brighthouse and use hdmi and the picture quality is amazing. I have seen some poor reviews about the sound but am yet to notice anything subpar about it. Besides its functionality this tv also looks like a piece of art on my bedroom wall. This was also my first time with an online purchase and amazon exceeded my expectations. Shipping was very fast only a few days and i was told to expect 10 days. I would definetley recommend.
Good TV Terrible Service I have two words of horror for you Electronics Expo. I purchased this set through Amazon who then relied on Electronics Expo to send the TV. First off they sent it via UPS rather than a qualified TV delivery service like Amazon uses. When I hooked up the TV the picture worked for 30 seconds then went to a green screen and blinked once in a while. I called Samsung and they said that they would send someone out in about a week but if the problem occurred during shipping the waranty wouldn't cover the repair. I decided to email Electronics Expo to request a new set and ask for a shipping label.
I have a question Since I'm buying an HDTV for a video games system like the PS3. Does this TV support PS3 HDMI at 1080p?The only other HDTV I'm used is a Visio and it only has 1080i. But it didn't support HDMI with video games systems you had to use Component cables not HDMI.

WORST TV I HAVE EVER OWNED!!! This TV is a Showcase of horrific flaws in manufacturing and design! Where to begin1. The TV has vertical lines on both sides of the set 34 inches from edge.2. There is also a vertical line that has showed up in the middle of the screen that is ALWAYS visible and distracting while watching anything.3. The HDMI input is CRAP! I have a PS3 more than 1 and its not the PS3 it's the TV that has the problem. and I have to physically unplug and replug the hdmi cable at least 10 times at most I've counted 32 times just to get it to work. Westinghouse says its a problem with the HDCP well its a BIG problem. However they do not seem to think so seeing how they refuse to fix it.4. The Component video inputs are also defective. They have a ghosting/rainbow effect when viewing any source over these inputs.5. The remote control is also defective or I should say the IR receiver on the TV. The remotes signal will only get through 30% of the time. And you end up having to press the same button 23 times just to get it to change inputs.6. Worst for last! I have addressed all these issues with Westinghouse and the only way to have SOME of the above mentioned problems fixed is to pay at my own expense for the shipping of this TV across country. Which would cost me literally half of what I payed for the actual TV.It should also be mentioned that I have used only HIGH quality cables Monster Cable 1000 Series HDMI and Component. I also have been a Manager at Radioshack for years and have a lot of knowledge in the area of Home Theater. This TV has let me learn a wonderful lesson. NEVER CHEAP out on a TV.
Buy Extended Warranty! We had good luck for a bit with a Westinghouse 32 so we also got a 42 Westinghouse. Our 32 was only 1 1/2 yrs old but it was too small for our room so we got a bigger one and used our 32 as a computer monitor. About a month after we bought our 42 tv the 32 quit working a blue rotating screen which was not really fixable. Then when our 42 was 1 1/2 yrs old the digital audio started to go out the digital audio converter that was within the tv made voices sound like monsters funny sounding for a while. We will try to resolve this if it persists by getting a cable box and running the audio thru it. Other issues have come up with our Westinghouse mostly compatibility with DVD players or cables not working in the ports. At some point we decided to buy a Sony Playstation. It did not work on our 42 Westinghouse. We have learned the hard way NEVER buy a Westinghouse and if you do because the price is so darn good be sure to get the extended warranty as you will most likely use it.We bought a Sony 30 to replace the Westinghouse 32and we LOVE our Sony. It's less than 2 years old and has worked flawless. The color & picture is better than our Westinghouse but I don't really have issues with the Westinghouse picture it's ok. It's the fact that other things tend to go wrong to make it a poor choice.The good thing we had the 32 installed on our wall and the 42 can go on the same bracket. That was nice so we didn't have to drill any more holes.I'm hoping we can get by on this pos Westinghouse for a while longer until 42 Sony's are cheap.
Horrible Build Quality Bought the TV because it was one of the cheapest 1080p units around at the time. But I've realized you get what you paid for. First the HDMI is horrible it makes my PS3 signal flash uncontrollably. There's also no dedicated HDMI button on the controller it cycles between 3 DVI/HDMI modes. That means it won't work properly with my Logitech 880 remote. Then my first unit failed on me with a screen problem.
Super buy I bought this TV at target on black Friday 2010 for $300. The only problem is that you can see the back lights around the edge when the screen is all black. Except for that small problem which is completely livable the TV is great. I play first person shooters on it with no ghosting and after many hours of watching the screen is still crisp with no fading our dead pixels. There are certainly better TVs on the market but don't be afraid to pick this set up.
Dont Do It!!!! Oi! This TV sucks. When mine went out on me after only 1 1/2 years I contacted westinghouse in an effort to resolve the issue and sent in my TV. it took over six weeks for them to tell me that the part that went out wasn't being made any more!!! My TV is awesome First off I have to say that we did not buy this at Amazon. However we ended up paying exactly the same price should have gone to Amazon.I bought this monitor the first week of February of 07 it arrived a few days later and I immediately put it on a TV stand in the living room where it resided for 7 months. I then wall mounted it using a peerless SP850S. The wall mount kit is perfect it pans tilts swivels and telescopes. It is heavy duty and yet surprisingly thin. It Telescopes 10 from the wall or lies flat at under 2.The TV is hooked up to an HDTV system running on a nearly silent PC using Beyond TV and Beyond Media. I have a media server in the basement collecting and distributing HDTV as well as SDTV and DVDs to all the HTPCs in the house. I run it at 1080p on the VGA input. The DVI input looks better has less noise and is sharper but for some reason the HTPC does not like the DVI output. So I use VGA.It is hard to tell the difference between DVI and VGA most of the time but you can tell sometimes. Even at that the picture is amazing far sharper than my dads pioneer 50 plasma and without that annoying glare to boot. The picture has been reliable and we have never had any problems with black levels or with ghosting movement blur. I have played PC games in full 1080p on it without any problems. The PC running the games was taxed a bit with that resolution but the Westinghouse never faltered.It takes about 230250 watts of power to run under normal circumstances. This does not seem to vary when the speakers are muted or the volume is turned down. Nor does it matter what the TV is playing. What does matter is the backlight levels. At 100 it takes 250 watts at 50 the lowest I have used it it takes about 240 and if the screen is all black it takes only 230. When the TV goes to sleep meaning that it has no input on its current source and so it goes into power save mode it takes only 34 watts of power. If you press the off button it takes <1 watt.I am noticing some dark banding lines when using the VGA but I do not believe this is due to the monitor itself but rather to the video card of the PC since if I put a different PC on that same interface the lines go away. But the other PC is not running 1920x1080 1080p so it is hard to tell if the PC is really at fault.In the last 9 months the cost has dropped on this by $125 and a new model has come out with an integrated HDTV tuner. Even knowing that I think this is the best HDTV purchase around right now providing the best value while giving truely impressive HD performance.
Not worth the Customer Service you are bound to have to deal with I bought this TV because it was 1080p at a good price. I received the TV quickly and for about 6 months my TV experience was positive. Then the TV started powering down on its own. I quickly jumped on the web to check and indeed the Westinghouse TV has had power issues in the past albeit different than what I was seeing. I should have actually checked for bad press before buying but hindsight being 20/20 I didn't. So I contacted Westinghouse the first time.The gentleman that answered was very helpful. I was dreading having to come up with a box to ship it back for repair but he found a local repair facility. So I dropped it with them on August 23rd. They swapped out the power supply a week later the TV still had the issue. They then had to order a logic board which was going to take a month. A MONTH? I called Westinghouse the second time. Told them what was going on they told me that they couldn't do anything for me unless I went to pick the TV up from their recommended local repair shop ship it to them they would repair and send it back but according to the customer service spokesman it may take longer than a month.Flash forward to the month later. I called the repair center. Again they were super nice but informed me that it would be another month. ????What???? I called Westinghouse back. I was livid. I explained that it had been a more than a month. I got a supervisor that basically told me that Westinghouse had no other way of helping me. I had brought up Apple computer as an example of a customer service story that went the right way them shipping a replacement before receiving the original. He said well that's why they cost so much and I can't afford them. We don't do that here and can't. Okay so what can you do I asked. Well you can call the repair facility and tell them about this other part distributor that we deal with that may make it go faster.They wanted me to do it. Okay. I called the repair center again. They had received the part over a couple of days here. The swapped it in immediately and the problem still persisted. Takes a day to see the issue. So they now say its the panel and it has to be shipped back to Westinghouse.I called Westinghouse for the 4th time. The said ok we will take it from here. We will contact the rental center get the TV and ship a replacement to you.I went on a business trip for about a week called Westinghouse 10 days later. I asked what was going on they didn't know.
Average for the money spent I bought this unit in June 2006 for the world cup and was pleasantly surprised by its picture quality. Even so the contrast ratio is 10001 it produced nice contrast.The product now sells for about a thousand dollars less than I paid for it then. Looking back it was worth paying $2200 for it but now that other products have come on the market I would not recommend this unit any more.WEAK POINTS The unit has CONSISTENT problems with locking up. You will have to remove the power cord wait a few seconds and try it again. You will get a green screen no video if you swap inputs. This will be corrected by changing inputs but it's quite annoying. The remote sometimes does not work. You have to keep aiming and pressing . It has limited features for example if you want to switch to the HDMI input you will have to scroll up and down to get to it. There's no oneclick button to get there. It only has one HDMI input. Sure you can use the component connection but the HDMI is much more convenient. If you have a DVD player and want the HD signal both hooked up at the same time. you're out of luck. It's a monitor so it does NOT have a tuner. This means that you have to have a satellite or cable box to hook up to it. This probably is OK as for now we all have to do this anyway but starting in a couple of years when all signals have to be HD this will be an issue.Overall at this point Fall 2007 I do not recommend this product as there out better choices and value for your $$.
DO NOT BUY Westinghouse LCD tv's! I bought a 37 inch Westinghouse LCD TV from Walmart only a year and a half ago and already the screen went out! Obviously the manufacturers warranty is already up after 1 year and although I called them to ask about what it could be that's wrong they offered me no remorse for the lack of quality and no solution. I then called a tv repair shop and was informed that flat panel TV's have only about an 18 month life expectancy before they go out! Well if I would of know that I wouldn't have spent $600 on one I would have stuck with the TV I had that lasted for 20 years. So my recommendation is not to buy TV's from Westinghouse I am shocked broke and severely disappointed..
I still love it after 15 months I read the poor reviews and took the legitimate ones seriously so when I purchased this bad boy I crossed my fingers hoping there would be no problems all the complaints that seemed legit to me were based on poor service. Much to my relief I've been using my Westinghouse LVM42w2 for well over a year and I still love it every day.My opinionated PROs aesthetically pleasing other budget TVs are UGLY TO THE EXTREME great functional Spine Design for inputs picture looks GREAT to me see below for details on content I view I can turn off the lighted W logo but I choose not to! the onscreen menu though I rarely use it is attractive and FAR LESS gaudy than most other OSDs I've seen on HDTVsMy opinionated CONs yes the remote is utterly sucktastic and I would like to never use the remote but HAVE TO for input switching because input switching is painfully long so I'd rather hit DVI twice on the Westy remote than input 6 times on my Comcast universal remote there is no stretch zoom option which allows widescreen letterboxed SD content to be stretched to fill the screen of course I rarely watch SD content anymore. I experience light bleeding in the corners but I've seen this on manyanLCD monitor including my two computer monitors both of which are Samsung and it seems to dissipate with time as the Westy warms upSo yeah there are qualifiers to just about all of my cons. Other people might point out that this doesn't have a builtin tuner or more HDMI inputs etc but I wasn't looking for features other than what this offers so I'm happy as can be with it.What I watchComcast HD cable runs into the HDMI port.

Beautiful TV! What a picture! In the last few years I have purchased several plasmas and they just keep getting better. Unlike my 4 year old 58 Samsung this TV is thin and runs cool. Just a year ago I purchased
TV died after three months. Bought on November 20th 2011 died on February 20th 2012. Lasted all of 3 months. Was sitting in front of the TV watching it when the thing just died. 100% unresponsive with no LED indicator. Heard some buzzing noises when unplugging the TV and plugging it back in.Will update review depending on how samsung responds to my issue wrote this entire review waiting on the NOW PROCESSING claim form on their website to submit!Edit Sent techs out to fix the TV turns out it was just a bad solder in the power cabling inside the TV fixed it right up.
Amazing TV I bought this T.V. initially as an upgrade for our 4 year old 42 LCD flat panel. We have a PS3 and lots of Bluray movies and that is why we were upgrading. I didn't care about 3D and after watching 3D movies in theaters had completely written the technology off as crappy. My wife convinced me that we should get the 3D starter kit and also got the Lion King on 3D. After watching The Lion King in 3D I became even more impressed with this already amazing T.V. The picture is beautiful ultra sharp looks great for sports games and entertainment but the real gem is the 3D. It is such an eye opener to see how good the 3D technology on this T.V. is. I mean it was like looking through a window in our wall into another world. I would buy this T.V. again and again it is really amazing.
64 Plasma tv This is the best picture I have ever seen. I'm a big gamer and this tv has a game mode for the picture and it certainly makes the picture look fantastic.

Samsung still making all those boards for any plasma TVs sold world wide still any parts avialable for everyone etc. And you will be mesmerized by TVs and Blue Rays picture quality.Too bad I've never had 3D experience due to damaged plasma display! Which has been delivered on time and with courtesy.Even though after I wrote to SamsungUSA about TVs being so fragile they offered free inhome repair service. PN51D550 Mirror Mirror On The Wall. ***Would like to provide an update 2/21/12***It is vitally important to invest in BluRay and/or some other 1080p content delivery for this HDTV otherwise it will soon not meet your expectations of picture quality. To say this is to state the obvious a bit. Point is once you've watched true 1080p on the PN51D550 everything else DVDs and SD content etc. will disappoint you. I now expect the same HD PQ in everything I watch. I expect the same Sports broadcast Comcast or BluRay quality all the time Most news and other network broadcast shows are mostly broadcast in 720p certainly this is true for older so called HD productions. Is it because the PN51D550 displays non1080p content poorly or is it that the true HD picture quality is so good? I don't know. All I can say is that 720P content and less will not be acceptable to you anymore. NetFlix and AppleTV will not be good enough. I'm streaming HDX movies from VUDU now and have mostly abandoned Netflix via xbox 360 and iTunes via AppleTVI'm completely spoiled.Hope this helps.****Okay now that the title of this review has your attention let me address the single flaw of this beautiful panel TV. It is very reflective of everything in its surroundings while showing dark scenes and especially when it is OFF. The PN51D550 would make a very effective mirror. It is not suited for bright sunny rooms or where there's any lighting in its view. I won't watch Batman or Tron during the day that's for sure.However with that said I still recommend this Samsung. It produces a beautiful picture once you calibrate the settings so don't freak out when you first turn it on because the picture will be very dark whites will look beige or grey and the shadow detail horrible.One of the first things I watched first was one of my son's baseball games we videoed in HD on our Apple TV. Plainly said it was awfuljust really bad and immediately sent my son into the garage to get the box so we could return it. Then I found the Dynamic Control setting and set it OFF. Immediately the image quality and colors came to life.You will also need to set Cell Brightness setting up beyond 16 as well as set high Brightness and Contrast to get anything close to white rather than a cream color that's miserably masquerading as white. But once you do this you will have the picture quality to be proud of and thoroughly enjoy.The picture quality and beautiful style of the TV is reason enough to give it 4Stars.
Awesome Tv Hello I bought the Samsung PN51D550 from Vanns.com through Amazon.com. Let just say that this Plasma HDTV is awesome. I use it with blurays ps3 and netflix. Everything just screams quality with this unit. Vanns. delivered the unit really fast. Actually I was scheduled for a Tuesday delivery. But when I found out it got into town during the weekend I got it in on Monday. And even they waited for me 30 minutes to get to my house. Just give it a shot and you wont regret it. You can't beat this tv. The price 3d quality of screen. It was oozes quality.
A good Plasma at a good price with great picture I have been using this TV for a couple of weeks now. I have no problems with buzzing or anything else mentioned in the other reviews. I studied these very closely before purchasing and took into account all the comments. Longterm will show whether it holds up but now it is pretty spectacular! A gorgeous picture very sharp very clear great colors. Everything you would want from your TV. The setup was easy and almost nothing had been done. I wish they would just use thehdmi1 hdmi2 hdmi3 designations rather than specific names other than hdmi2. I bought a wireless dongle and easily inserted into the USB slot. The network setup was very simple and the interface was easy to use even with the remote. I haven't yet played a 3D movie but looked at the 2D3D option the set has. It is subtle and not always easy to see the effect. I suspect the nature of the 2D image is really going to determine what they can do to go to 3D. I bought some 3D glasses at Amazon as none came with the TV. All in all I'm happy with the Samsung TV the plasma is very bright contrast is wonderful colors are vibrant and can be adjusted and should to match room and your viewing previous. I certainly recommend this.

Philips 47PFL6704D F7 47 Inch 1080p Does well in glare; senior-friendly remote control

Outstanding, I have been researching on and off for almost 6 months trying to find the "perfect" tv that will fit my needs and my pocketbook. I have reviewed the technical details and the specifications of numerous tvs and had narrowed the search down to the Samsung LN46B630 and the Phillips 47 PFL6704D. I had decided on the Samsung and went to my local Sam's Club to buy it when the manager of the electronics area, told me they had a rash of returns on the Samsungs over the last month.
Great style, great picture, great price, I've had this LCD for about 10 weeks now, and it has not disappointed at all. Clear picture. Lots of HDMI and other video inputs. I've even connected my laptop to the screen with a bluetooth keyboard and mouse for the ultimate computer gaming screen. (By the way, under 5ms response time is imperative for computer gaming.
lovely LCD TV, Nice picture when judged side-by-side to a Samsung 40" (the Samsung was rated the #1 value by Consumer Reports) perhaps not a saturated but one could likely adjust it if so desired to have more "pop". Seems to be more susceptible to horizontal judder than the Samsung. Pretty cheap for a screen this big. Paid significantly more for the 40" just one year ago.
Very good for the money, The TV arrived with a defective remote control but a call to Philips got a new one on the way and it arrived quickly. Once the remote issue was resolved, the setup was fast and easy and the picture quality is great. Once the filters were setup, the sound is very good but best sound will be obtained with a good set of external speakers. The TV ships in a mode that requires the remote in order to enter the setup mode and if I had not been able to make a temporary repair, the entire set would have been returned as defective because of a five cent switch being stuck in the closed position. That being said, I am very well pleased with the TV and would buy another one if I needed it. I was well pleased with the way Philips responded to the warranty coverage. The agent was polite, helpful and very capable and the replacement remote arrived in two business days.
Extremely Impressed, I spent hours comparing the features and picture quality of this HDTV versus similarly priced and sized Vizio and Sanyo models. The audio blew away the Vizio in volume (appeared to be equal that of the Sanyo), and the picture quality of the Philips seemed to be slightly better than the Sanyo (and equal to the Vizio) when compared side by side. The Sanyo had a ton of features on the remote to adjust the picture, however the Philips scored high in terms of "ease of use" in setting up a great picture to your own preference. The Philips also had better specs than the other two brands, e.g. the response time was a blazing 2 ms which makes for sharper dynamic images.

I also researched all three models on line, and found that there were many complaints about the Vizio breaking just after the one year warranty expired. When all was said and done, I took the Philips 47 inch TV home.

After viewing this TV for about a month, I have nothing but praise for it. The clarity is fabulous and the colors are vibrant and realistic. Watching certain shows/movies in HD just blows me away; the depth of field is so deep that the picture has a three dimensionality to it. The equalizer is a great feature for the audio, and presents a very nice sound stage and is so powerful at 20 Watts there's a lot of volume on reserve.

I also like the "Power Saver" preset mode and use it often. It gives a very decent picture yet it uses considerably less than its 285 peak power consumption. With it's 4 HDMI and 4 A/V ports, along with S-Video and USB 2.0 (for viewing AVI as well as WMV movies directly from a flash drive), this TV has all the ports you would need for any home entertainment center. Hooking up a laptop (Mac) was easy after buying a DVI-HDMI adapter (but if you do use an adapter you'll also need a separate cable for your audio).

The remote control is sleek (even for smaller hands), ergonomic, and easy to use. It has the look and feel of a quality remote that will last.

When I phoned Philips for help hooking up my laptop to the TV, they answered the phone promptly and were very helpful, professional and courteous. I have phoned them in the past with questions (I have other Philips products) and have always been very satisfied with my experience with Customer Service/Tech Support.
So far so good, Even though this is an older model, I just bought one new for 800 bucks, and so far so good. Great Picture and good sound. I have had good success with Philips products over the years and own several electronic items by them. Set-up was quick and easy and I have had no problem. Blu-ray and Streaming Netflix look awsome. My HD cable channels are excellent also. I have no complaints so far. I can't complain about Price/Performance.
Does well in glare; senior-friendly remote control, We bought this after our old big box and big screen TV died, or at least its sound system did. The new unit looks sleek and attractive in the family room, and the picture holds up well despite sunny glare from south-facing windows.
