Sony Bravia KDL 40S5100 40 Inch 1080p DO NOT BUY!! BEWARE!

Horrible issues with this model, Lets start off with the faults:

1. Sound randomly starts to stutter and drops out. Then randomly stutters and comes back in. Sony repaired 3 times each time it came back the same way it was sent off..with random audio drop outs.

2. HD picture quality is ok. SD picture quality is flat our horrible.

3. Blacks are almost grays and where you should see a gradual change in colors such as in a evening sunset there is obvious banding.

4.
prices went down some,
So happy to have bought this., I originally purchased a 32 inch Sony Bravia HDTV, and then I saw this one on sale here... so I purchased it without hesitation. $50 more and I could get a 40 inch! Great TV... can't believe it was so inexpensive. No freeze frames, good color. Very happy.
Sony = terrible customer service, I bought this TV just before Christmas 2009 and it has has not worked properly since day 1. First of all, The HDMI inputs didn't work all the time. Periodically when turning the TV on, there is a picture but no sound, or sound and no picture. Reseating the HDMI cable fixes it temporarily. The TV also pops loudly and reboots itself 3 or 4 times a week. Sony farms out repair to a local company and the local guy said Sony has had problems with direcTV DVR's. He called Sony and they authorized replacing the main board and power supply. This did fix the HDMI problems but not the loud popping and reboooting. Another repair call required replacement of the LCD panel. After waiting another 2 weeks for this, the replacement panel wouldn't even turn on so he had to put the old panel back in. Sony then said they would replace the TV and I'd be called within 3 days. This is when the real trouble started. I got a garbled message requesting I fax my original purchase receipt to a toll number in Florida. I couldn't make out the number and the rep left no call back. The next day, I had another garbled message but managed to get the phone number and some of my "reference number" out of the message. The next day I got a third call saying the information was incomplete - now they want the retailer's name and address even though the first 2 messages didn't ask for that. Again, no call back number was given. Sony's website doesn't list any toll free numbers, either, so I had to pay to talk to them. That's when I found out the Florida number just bouces to a call center in the Phillipines. Eventually, they got the information (that they already had) and called a week later, leaving another toll number for me to call. This time, they offered to sell me the latest Sony TV at a cost of 300 dollars more OR a refurbished TV. Considering I bought a NEW TV and it didn't work from the beginning, I wasn't too happy. Sony only offers new replacement within the first 30 days, even though any intermittent problem will NEVER be resolved within that time, so everybody gets a used one for replacement.
I will never buy another Sony Product, We literally bought four (4) of these pieces of junk starting Super Bowl Sunday, Feb. 7, 2010 through Feb. 28, 2010. Each one had issues within 2-5 days. We took all four (4) back based upon the advice of Sony Technicians, and I tried to call Sony to seek help. I spent a total of 4 1/2 hours over 5 days on the phone, mostly on hold, waiting to talk to a person. I finally was told "that is beyond our control, you need to talk to someone in Customer Relations." FYI, if you try to call Customer Relations at 1-239-768-7547, which by the way is the number that is listed on Sony's web-site, the first thing you will notice is it is a "long distance call." The second thing you will notice is you will be on hold for a minimum of 30 minutes waiting to talk to someone. The third thing you will find is that you aren't calling Sony Customer Relations at all.

You are calling Product Support, who will ask you dozens of the same question, until you have wasted more of your day and money on the long distance call. Only after you get so angry you are ready to spit nails do they say "you need to talk to someone in Sony Customer Relations." Then the fun really begins as Sony Customer Relations is only open on Monday through Friday.
Perfect tv does everything perfectly, I decided to rate this TV after I saw another Sony widescreen model at my friend's and realized how mine is SO much better.

First, if offers plenty of HDMI outlets (for my DirecTV, Roku/Netflix, and Blu-Ray DVD) on both the back and side.

The image quality hardly needed any tweaks out of the box.

The remote (only used when switching outputs) is so ridiculously easy that even my mother can figure it out.

All in all, the best darn TV I've seen and the perfect size for my large living room. You really can't go wrong.
Junk, This is the 2nd Sony I've purchased. I guess I can be criticizd for making a mistake twice, as the other Sony we had went completely out after 3 years. Worked fine for about 13 months, then approximately 1/5th of the screen started going out and it's now just a black band along the right side. Repair man is on the way - again. I won't buy another Sony TV and I can't recommend any Sony.
Pretty good value while it works, I had my KDL40S4100 for a little over 2 years and the LCD panel is going. Thankfully I purchased a warranty from the store instead of SONY(Soounds like they are a nightmare to deal with). I always tried to purchase SONY products because I've had some great luck with them but, this TV only lasting 2 years wasn't so good. I would still use their other products but, am going with Samsung after this. I have a Samsung in my Bedroom that I picked up on the cheap and have been very happy with it. Also, they get great reviews. Sorry to those who only have a SONY warranty. Next time, go with the stores warranty. You may pay a little more but, you know where to go if you get a run-around.
Serious Audio Flaws, The picture of this TV is OK. The audio is really bad. 1. random crackling static 2. tinny speakers 3. rca audio jacks will not work while using hdmi for video only, even though manual says it should work.
DO NOT BUY!! BEWARE!, I bought this tv 15 months ago and I started to have problems with it right after the 12 month. I did not buy extended warranty trusting a name like SONY. I have researched a lot and apparently all the motherboards in this model can and go wrong eventually. My tv just won't turn on out of sudden. Please read for yourself on this problem on other reputable sites. DO NOT BUY it. As far as customer service SONY has lost me FOREVER. I gave it one star because the option of zero stars is not available.

VIZIO M260VA 26 Inch Class RazorLED Works great for the guest room

Really good purchase!, I really like this TV, although it was bought as 'previously used', it arrived at my house as a new Tv, in the original box, wrapped and protected by plastic. Only by looking at the box you could see somce signs of previous usage. It is very easy to set up, the screen and sound quality are good and the controls are simple.
Happy with my VIZIO, I am very happy with this VIZIO TV. It has been serving us well. Great picture quality , sound quality. Value for money.
Great "Little" TV, We bought the VIZIO Razor a year ago for our kitchen, and we still love it. It's hard to believe at 26" television fits on a kitchen counter under our upper cabinets.

Sleek, sexy design & thin profile
    Bright LED display
Recommended for kitchens, rec rooms, dorm rooms, bedrooms, offices.
    Can be used as a computer monitor (supports 1360 x 768, 1024 x 768, 800 x 600, 640 x 480 via RGB/HDMI)
Decent sound -- VERY decent compared to other TVs I tested in this price/size range
    Does NOT have internal WiFi

    great purchase,
pmonte, I received this TV as a xmas gift and am very excited to own it. The quality is great, beautiful picture and fantastic definition. You wouldn't expect a small TV like this to have incredible sound, it is decent for what it is, but i recommend a sound system to go along. As for the connectivity, I was disappointed to find out you cannot connect any usb device for video playback to the TV. Only jpeg files are allowed for viewing. Other than that, I love connecting my macbook to it and watching movies.
It makes a great monitor!!!, I have been very pleased with this Tv, It has been a great monitor for my mac pro!!!!! It has a super slim profile so you could fit it almost anywhere, and a ver clear 720P resolution. It has 2 available Hdmi Inputs and also a RGB. If you are considering buying this as a monitor, I would recommend it.
Good television for Price, I finally upgraded from my two-ton old rear projection television. I am NOT good at putting electronic things together, but after a few attempts (and using google, You-tube and wikipedia), I actually got the dvd player and the vcr connected. I even managed to get Netflix streaming. The instruction manual included is very clear and precise. I am not happy with the sound. I put my computer speakers onto the television but I think I will get a sound bar. By itself the sound is quite tinny--like the sound of a computer with no speakers. The little $15 speakers work well to eliminate the tinny sound. What is great is all of the various inputs--plenty of room to attach everything that is needed. I'm very happy with my purchase and would recommend.
Great video. Poor sound., I've had this model for a year. I bought a second one a year ago for a gift and can speak for it also. This model has great video and features. There has not been any technical problems with either set so far. The sound, however, is poor. This is most likely the fault of the small speakers and not the electronics. I got around this by purchasing a set of USB powered computer speakers (this model has a USB port). The sound is now as good as the video. THE USB port can also be used to view photos from a flash drive. Works great.
Works great for the guest room, I purchased this television for our guest room a year ago. It gets used at least once a month. My mother and my in-laws both really prefer it to the complex home theater setup in our living room. The picture quality is good. The sound is good. It's super slim, so it doesn't take up much room on a console table at the foot of the bed. Overall, it's been a great purchase.
Sweet little set, I bought this on a doorbuster at a local store & could not be happier. Vizio truly is a quality set! The colors are great without much tweaking. The sound is very good for a flat panel, especially since the speakers are in the front, not the back. Good amount of hookups on it. Computer looks great hooked up to this. I even had this hooked up on my patio with an antennae to watch a race one night & the picture was so crisp & clear. I was very pleased.

Philips 47PFL6704D F7 47 Inch 1080p Does well in glare; senior-friendly remote control

Outstanding, I have been researching on and off for almost 6 months trying to find the "perfect" tv that will fit my needs and my pocketbook. I have reviewed the technical details and the specifications of numerous tvs and had narrowed the search down to the Samsung LN46B630 and the Phillips 47 PFL6704D. I had decided on the Samsung and went to my local Sam's Club to buy it when the manager of the electronics area, told me they had a rash of returns on the Samsungs over the last month.
Great style, great picture, great price, I've had this LCD for about 10 weeks now, and it has not disappointed at all. Clear picture. Lots of HDMI and other video inputs. I've even connected my laptop to the screen with a bluetooth keyboard and mouse for the ultimate computer gaming screen. (By the way, under 5ms response time is imperative for computer gaming.
lovely LCD TV, Nice picture when judged side-by-side to a Samsung 40" (the Samsung was rated the #1 value by Consumer Reports) perhaps not a saturated but one could likely adjust it if so desired to have more "pop". Seems to be more susceptible to horizontal judder than the Samsung. Pretty cheap for a screen this big. Paid significantly more for the 40" just one year ago.
Very good for the money, The TV arrived with a defective remote control but a call to Philips got a new one on the way and it arrived quickly. Once the remote issue was resolved, the setup was fast and easy and the picture quality is great. Once the filters were setup, the sound is very good but best sound will be obtained with a good set of external speakers. The TV ships in a mode that requires the remote in order to enter the setup mode and if I had not been able to make a temporary repair, the entire set would have been returned as defective because of a five cent switch being stuck in the closed position. That being said, I am very well pleased with the TV and would buy another one if I needed it. I was well pleased with the way Philips responded to the warranty coverage. The agent was polite, helpful and very capable and the replacement remote arrived in two business days.
Extremely Impressed, I spent hours comparing the features and picture quality of this HDTV versus similarly priced and sized Vizio and Sanyo models. The audio blew away the Vizio in volume (appeared to be equal that of the Sanyo), and the picture quality of the Philips seemed to be slightly better than the Sanyo (and equal to the Vizio) when compared side by side. The Sanyo had a ton of features on the remote to adjust the picture, however the Philips scored high in terms of "ease of use" in setting up a great picture to your own preference. The Philips also had better specs than the other two brands, e.g. the response time was a blazing 2 ms which makes for sharper dynamic images.

I also researched all three models on line, and found that there were many complaints about the Vizio breaking just after the one year warranty expired. When all was said and done, I took the Philips 47 inch TV home.

After viewing this TV for about a month, I have nothing but praise for it. The clarity is fabulous and the colors are vibrant and realistic. Watching certain shows/movies in HD just blows me away; the depth of field is so deep that the picture has a three dimensionality to it. The equalizer is a great feature for the audio, and presents a very nice sound stage and is so powerful at 20 Watts there's a lot of volume on reserve.

I also like the "Power Saver" preset mode and use it often. It gives a very decent picture yet it uses considerably less than its 285 peak power consumption. With it's 4 HDMI and 4 A/V ports, along with S-Video and USB 2.0 (for viewing AVI as well as WMV movies directly from a flash drive), this TV has all the ports you would need for any home entertainment center. Hooking up a laptop (Mac) was easy after buying a DVI-HDMI adapter (but if you do use an adapter you'll also need a separate cable for your audio).

The remote control is sleek (even for smaller hands), ergonomic, and easy to use. It has the look and feel of a quality remote that will last.

When I phoned Philips for help hooking up my laptop to the TV, they answered the phone promptly and were very helpful, professional and courteous. I have phoned them in the past with questions (I have other Philips products) and have always been very satisfied with my experience with Customer Service/Tech Support.
So far so good, Even though this is an older model, I just bought one new for 800 bucks, and so far so good. Great Picture and good sound. I have had good success with Philips products over the years and own several electronic items by them. Set-up was quick and easy and I have had no problem. Blu-ray and Streaming Netflix look awsome. My HD cable channels are excellent also. I have no complaints so far. I can't complain about Price/Performance.
Does well in glare; senior-friendly remote control, We bought this after our old big box and big screen TV died, or at least its sound system did. The new unit looks sleek and attractive in the family room, and the picture holds up well despite sunny glare from south-facing windows.

Samsung LN46B550 46 Inch 1080p Touch Good TV

Good TV, The TV is great. The picture quality is top notch. However, when integrated with the SAMSUNG Blu-Ray player...
Great for the price, I have been looking to replace my Fujitsu 42" plasma that was 5 years old. Embarrassed to say what I paid, but this Samsung blows that one away. For $1k this is a great product. The unit gives a clear crisp picture. Built in speakers are plenty for the bedroom. if you would want in a theatre room, you need to add external speakers.

My only complaint is that it takes about 30 seconds for the picture to come on when you turn it on. Also when you turn it off there is a white lite which may be the lamp that you see before the screen goes black.

So far, so good. I hope to have this one longer than the plasma.
Broke in 10 Months, Got this item on 12-18-2009 and it worked great. Picture was decent for a low end LCD and XBOX 360 and PS3 looked fantastic. My only BIG complaint is it stop displaying the picture after 10-months. I can turn it on and I can hear the sound but no picture. Even the overlay display cannot be seen. I contacted Samsung customer support through the on-line website. We will see how that works out, at-least it broke before my year warranty expired.
Dead TV after 20 months, I thought I was buying a quality product when I purchased this tv in May 2009. However, last week while on the tv made a large popping noise, shut off, and I smelled burning plastic/rubber. The tv failed to turn back on, and after talking to both Samsung (they told me my tv was SO FAR out of warrant - um, 8 months past is "SO FAR?") and then their authorized repair shop, I was told it was the Power Supply and fixing it would cost $450.
Highly recommend!, I have this TV for just over a year. I have no complains. It is a great TV.
An excellent find, Bought it open box "Like New" and it's perfect. Screen is beautiful - especially in HD.
    love this TV,
Great TV - Excellent inputs - Love the large display, I've been looking at this TV for the past two years, and following the upgrades in model numbers. I finally pulled the trigger for my birthday last month, and I'm really pleased with the TV.

    Out of the box:

The TV was expertly packaged. When I pulled it out of the box, I had the TV, a small stand, and the power cord. I had the TV on the stand for a few days before mounting it on the wall using a Peerless SA750PU Universal Articulating Wall Mount for 32" to 58" Displays (Black). The stand that came with the TV seemed a little flimsy to me. It's a small plastic stand upon which the TV snugly sits. When placed on a low-slung coffee table, the TV wobbled a little when the coffee table was bumped. While the stand will likely be more than enough for most users, I have two fairly large dogs who like to romp around. If I used the stand permanently, I would be worried the TV might topple and would better secure it somehow. Once the TV was mounted on the wall, it securely fit into the mount and I have little fear of it falling, or being upended.

    Unit appearance:

The display looks great. The "Red Touch of color" is noticeable enough to be stylish, but subtle enough not to be distracting. The outer portion of the display is rimmed with a transparent glass that is a total fingerprint magnet. So much so that whenever I tilt the TV or move it on the articulating wall-mount, I try to pull my sleeves over my hands so as not to leave prints, or I wipe the edges down when I'm done. Regardless, the TV is beautiful.
Great LCD TV, Excellent TV. Easy hookup, great color, clarity, resolution. Like every Samsung I have had, very happy with it.
Excellent TV, I've had this TV for just under a week now and am very pleased with it. The picture is great. Set up and connections were easy and straight forward - it was up and running within 15 minutes. Easily connect to a Sony Blu-Ray player and older Sony Home Theater system.

Sharp AQUOS LC40D68UT 40 Inch 1080p Not so good TV

Excellent product!, Bought it refurbished but it looks brand new. The lacquered frame is typical on HDTV nowadays. The color and viewing angle is excellent. The color and brightness is better than my old Aquos HDTV. The remote is simple but it should have been a universal remote because my old Aquos had it. Quality is top notch. Sound was fine like any another TV. What the other review may be experiencing is your surround sound setting from your AV receiver.
You get what you pay for., Very cheap and good working TV...although the picture is hard to adjust on the dvd player (but this could be because my current dvd player is a little broken, and if so, it is worth the '5' stars!) however the computer hdmi input is instantly beautiful, and have NOT had any sound issues or anything like that.
Not so good TV, I purchased this TV from another website not Amazon. The goods: Picture quality viewed from straight on and low lag. The bad: Please make sure that you will only be viewing this TV square in front otherwise the color shift is very drastic. Also the sound is just not good. You have to watch Tv with the remote at hand because it comes out too low in some scenes and too loud in others. Overall not satisfied with purchase.
Tv was gift, Was a gift for the in-laws, and a huge improvement over what they had. The only thing the father-in-law wants now is an extra speaker setup, to make the big tv experience more enjoyable when he watches his old war movies.
60hz vs. Sharp AQUOS LC40D78UN @ 120hz, This is the same TV @60 hz as the Sharp AQUOS LC40D78UN @ 120hz.

Check the 78 series out. I recently bought the LC40D78UN for $499.00.

All in all either are great HDTV.
BEST LCD HDTV for Gaming, When it came time for me to upgrade my TV's, I researched very thoroughly for a TV that has as little lag as possible as my fiance and I game HEAVILY. I had read on some forums that Sharp TV's in particular are among the best, and now that I purchased one I must agree. Any HD resolution, set on game mode, has zero lag. Button presses are instantaneously shown on-screen. So your Wii, Playstation 2 and 3, Xbox, XBox 360...all of those play fantastic. If you play old school games, the lag is next to zero. It's so minimal that I can still pull off combos and counters easily in Street Fighter Alpha 3 or Darkstalkers for the Playstation 1. And this TV has another big plus: it can play standard definition games (240p) through component cables. What this means is that you can play, for instance, playstation 1 games (at their 240p resolution), on a playstation 2 over component cables. The TV does all the process work, and on "Game Mode", it's fantastic to play. 480i plays fantastic as well.

Picture quality is great, and if you're not on "game mode', the lag is still very minimal.
Great TV, Absolutely no complaints or disappointments. Produces far less heat than my previous set, so obviously uses less power. Great Picture, Great Sound.
Excellent second TV, This is a second TV for a bed room. The primary TV is a 52" Sharp in a family room. Set mounted easily on our wall and has an excellent picture. Color, sharpness, and brightness are excellent as expected from Sharp. Setup was easy and all adjustments were made without problems. Basic cable set up was no problem and the two tuners separated out the basic from the HD.

Toshiba REGZA 40XV645U 40 Inch 1080p DOA in Three (3) Years

Fine TV until warranty expires, This was a fine TV until one month after the warranty expired. Then vertical streaks would appear during and after overlays of the main image. At 15 months the picture would begin to disappear for minutes, then hours and then days. After 2 weeks of this progressing failure it was taken in for repair. Maybe it could be repaired with replacement of the main circuit board at a cost approaching $500. This will be the last Toshiba I will buy.
DO NOT BUY TOSHIBA, BOUGHT A TOSHIBA 40XV645U TV BECAUSE I THOUGHT TOSHIBA MEANT QUALITY. 18 MONTHS AFTER PURCHASE I"M HAVING SERIOUS VIDEO ISSUES. THE DEALER WHO SOLD IT TO ME IS NO HELP, AND TOSHIBA SEEMS TO CARE LESS ABOUT MY PROBLEM. I"LL KNOW BETTER THAN TO SPEND MY MONEY ON A TOSHIBA PRODUCT WHEN I BUY MY NEXT TV...AND IT LOOKS LIKE I"LL HAVE TO BUY ONE SOON.
DO NOT BUY THIS TV, I bought this TV on July 4, 2009 from Best Buy and on July 17, 2010 because the picture started going out. The colors started streaking across the screen, especially when there is any text on the screen such as news tickers etc. I took it back to Best Buy and was told it wasn't their problem and that I had to deal with Toshiba. I spoke with Toshiba and they said I had to send it in since it is 40" or bigger (isn't it amazing how the most common TV sizes require extra) and that I would have to pay $179 to have it checked. If they agreed it was a problem, I would still have to pay $59 but they would be "happy" to cover the rest. So, I have to spend $179 and "might" get it fixed. I'd rather buy a new one and be done with Toshiba and Best Buy.

Prior to this issue, the TV was fine but nothing special. I have a Sharp Aquos and Hitachi DLP and both have better pictures and sound quality. Again, DO NOT BUY THIS TV.
Toshiba HDTV is the best, When I ordered this TV, I used Consumer Reports to evaluate which TV was best. This Toshiba was not ranked first.

However, since we already had an older cathode ray tube Toshiba TV and a DVD/VCR Toshiba recorder, it seemed likely that we would select the Toshiba HDTV.

We are happy that we selected the Toshiba since the quality of the HDTV matches that found on the other Toshiba equipment that we have.

We are very happy with our purchase.
Toshiba Regza 40XV645U stay away!, I bought this Toshiba Regza 40XV645U TV in August 2009 and by Dec 2010 it was dead a SECOND TIME! the first time was in April of 2009 the bottom of the screen was all horizontal lines, I called Toshiba and had it looked at by a Toshiba certificated repair shop and sure enough the panel was bad and needed replacing.

The job was done and right away and two or three days after the TV was returned I noticed not just one or two dead pixels in the NEW panel, but a cluster of I would say ten or fifteen dead pixels in one area, but I figured it was ok i couldn't even notice it from the regular viewing distance so I lived with it.

Well now the panel is gone AGAIN! This time it's a vertical line to the center right of the screen, really noticeable when the screen goes a little darker. I called Toshiba a told them the story and was told I was out of luck, there was only a 90 day warranty on the NEW panel so I now have a $1000.
Good TV, Until the display starts going., Had my Toshiba 40XV645U for 6 months before display started showing faint black horizontal lines on left hand side, fading to normal colors on right. Progressively got worse. After a little over a year, red vertical streaks began displaying at which point I looked into the warranty. It's only ONE year, on a TV? I've never heard of this. Must be they knew they were creating a junk model.
POS, I hope Toshiba reads their reviews on their products. I bought this tv 2 years ago for around $800. Started getting a rainbow effect on the screen. Toshiba only warranties their product for 1 year. Took it to a repair shop they say that the panel went out and a new on is $380 plus labor is an extra 100. I can buy a new tv for around $400. I have to admit the tv had an awesome picture when it worked but a tv should last longer than 2 years. Technology needs to take a step back and make products that last.
DOA in Three (3) Years, This unit is DOA within three (3) years of purchase. No replacement parts are available for the circuit board that died and no warranty protection. I think it is a crime that a company is allowed to sell a product that one would expect to work well for 7-10 years and not even support its repair. I'll never buy another Toshiba TV.
Nice TV but problems with closed caption., I have been very happy with this purchase overall, but ...

I really would like to use closed captions with broadcast (received by antenna) programs.

Though the menu structure for TV features is rather complex in spots, it is not too difficult

to figure out how to enable the captions. The problem was that they turned themselves off on

a regular basis. Like when the channel was changed or the menu was displayed even if nothing

was changed. Sometimes for no apparent reason. My original Mitsubishi set was still in place

next to the Toshiba and the Zinwell digital converter box that connected it (via splitter) to

the antenna unerringly provided captions when available.

I found I could usually turn them back on by performing a Kabuki dance that involved resetting

all relevant options and turning the set off and on but that got old quickly. Phone support

from Toshiba directed me to a local appliance dealer for authorized service. Their rep agreed

something was wrong and ended up getting a replacement board for the set from Toshiba. The

software shows a change from 6.1.43.0 to 6.1.45.0.

Now the captions generally stay on when set but are not detected on some channels. Again, the

converter box displays captions without error. And, while the TV never shows any option other

than English, if Spanish captions are provided on CC3 (according to the converter box), the

captions are shown as turned off and the Spanish ones displayed. Go Figure.

I hate to say so because it has a great picture and excellent connectivity, but I am considering

selling this set and trying a different manufacturer.
Don't Buy Toshiba!!, The Toshiba products have horrid durability and life. Our 40" lasted 15 months before failure (40XV645U). The unit is stationary connected to a solid surge/brownout protect strip. After the short life of the Toshiba products (VHS, DVD, picture tube TV, and multiple LCD TV's), I would never recommended a Toshiba product.

From my experience, spend a few more dollars and buy something like the Sony (No - Samsung products are as bad as Toshiba). The Sony LCD TV is on 7 years and counting.

Samsung UN46D6500 46 Inch 1080p Black Great TV

Great TV, This was an easy set-up. Everything about this is working perfect right now. The motion control has to be played with and fine tuned at first. I have HD and non HD channels where it's difficult to tell the two apart now. Not only TV and videos, but Xbox is great on it. I used to be a Sony fan, but the ratings for Samsung changed my mind.
Astonishing, This is an awesome television. I'd purchased it to replace a two-year old HD television of the same size. The older television had a display refresh rate of 60Hz, and the jagged artifacts while watching football and hockey, the moire patterns of folks in plaid suits and striped ties were making me a little crazy, and the cold-start time of the old-school flourescant backlighting was getting on my last nerve.

The image clarity of this Samsung is stunning. I was prepared for a really good picture. I wasn't expecting to be so thoroughly blown away by the image, by the SMART television features (let's face it; an Internet-enabled TV is pretty cool) and I really couldn't be more pleased at the bang for the buck of this HDTV. I'd give it six stars if I could.
Don't buy expensive electronics from Amazon, This is one of the best TV-s around, especially for the price. Returned a Sony Bravia KDLEX720 for buying this tv. Amazon allowed me to choose free super saver shipping during purchase, which I did, not knowing that some UPS guy will come and unload a crushed hdtv box in front of my apartment. The tv works, but given the amount of damage to the box, I can only imagine the impact this tv has withstood during shipment, and I am worried it might cause issues later. For something worth this much money, I would expect Amazon to be a little bit more careful in choosing their shipping options. And unfortunately, this is not first time. I had similar experience when I bought an equally expensive DSLR camera + lens from Amazon. So no more Amazon for me, as far as expensive electronics is concerned.
A Work of Art, I LOVE the look of this TV sitting on my black granite topped credenza. Picked them both out in the last few weeks, and damn, I did GOOD! Lol. I'm awestuck every time I turn the thing on. It's tempting to run my relaxation DVD's all day just to enjoy the pictures. The thin bezel and deep blacks make ALL the difference.
Awsome, This television is amazing. Easy setup and connection to my wireless router right out of the box. The resolution is great and beats all other brands out there. Only wished that it had a built in browser.
Best TV I have owned, but be prepared to spend some time, I purchased the Samsung UN46D6500 TV because the reviews on the 6000 Series were very positive and I was able to buy the 6500 that includes 3D and built in WiFi at the same price as the 6000 Series models that do not have either or both of these features. I also received two pairs of Samsung 3D glasses free with the purchase (SSG-3050GB). I am not a big 3D fan, but since it came free, it was a worthwhile upgrade. I don't currently download movies from the internet so the WiFi feature interested me more to download the software updates, but eventually I will get around to playing with the other features like the Samsung Apps. First of all, I will agree with the comments of many of the reviewers that say that is a great looking TV. The narrow frame and the glass make it easily the best looking TV I have owned. I have it on a Z-Line media stand with black glass shelves and it looks great. I haven't done a lot yet with 3D, but I did preview some 3D movies from my cable provider. They were good, but if I got serious about 3D, I would purchase the better Samsung glasses (SSG-3500CR) which have rechargeable batteries. Mine were free and work ok, so I am in no hurry to spend more money.

The setup was very easy but I would recommend that you go to the Samsung website and download the full owner's manual before you begin. The short abbreviated manual included with the TV is ok, but you can find out a lot more about for instance the various picture, sound, etc. adjustments that are not detailed in the short manual. The WiFi setup took only minutes although I did not set up any accounts or download any Samsung Apps. I ran the software updates without problem. The real challenge is in tweaking the picture and other various settings to your individual liking.
Samsung UN55D6500 55-Inch 1080p 120 Hz 3D LED TV (Black), This television is really great! The pictures are clear; the colors are rich, and the sound is very good. I have played with the Smart features a bit - BBC News. I haven't had a chance to check out the 3-D yet. At first I was a little concerned about having a TV delivered , but it was delivered quickly (faster than I expected)and in great shape. It was easy to install - my brother and I completed it within a half hour. The price was very good.
    Samsung UN40D6500 40" Class 3D LED HDTV,
Samsung UN46D6500 46-Inch 1080p 120 Hz 3D LED TV (Black), I love this TV. I still need to move to the HD broadcasting for regular cable but the picture quality with some of the HD streamed movies that I saw was stunning with awesome vivid colors. There is no bleeding of light for darker frame images at the seams. Setup was easy and the apps are quite cool.
Samsung 46D6500 LED TV, This TV is awesome. Utra-thin and light. Incredibly easy to set up. It only took me a couple of minutes to unpack, setup the base and have the TV running and connected to the home network. The picture quality is phenomenal, once connected to an HD source. The apps are okay. Not really big on using apps on the TV, so it doesn't really bother me. Otherwise we are extremely happy with our choice, and I would highly recommend it to others.

To help you get a great 3D experience, use the checklist below to ensure you have everything you need. 3D viewing requires:

A DisplayFirst, you'll need a 3D-ready display--whether it's a 3D HDTV, 3D projector, or 3D computer monitor. These displays have more processing power than standard 2D models for displaying 3D images in rapid succession. A SourceYour display may be ready for 3D playback, but you'll still need a device to read 3D content. This can be a cable box with a subscription to a 3D channel, a 3D Blu-ray Disc player, or a PlayStation 3 system. 3D Content3D content--the actual entertainment, in other words--will be played back using the source mentioned above, whether it's a 3D broadcast from your cable provider, a 3D Blu-ray Disc, or a 3D video game. 3D GlassesFor now, the vast majority of 3D HDTVs require glasses for 3D viewing. Many use powered "active shutter" glasses, others polarized "passive" glasses. You'll need one pair per viewer, and they'll have to be compatible with your display, whether they're the same brand, or a pair of "universal" glasses designed to work across brands. HDMI CableTo connect your source (such as a 3D Blu-ray Disc player) to your display, you'll need a high-speed HDMI cable. Cables with this designation feature bandwidth speeds up to 10.2 Gbps (gigabits per second), for carrying the 3D signal without any loss of quality.

Sony Bravia KDL 52XBR6 52 Inch 1080p I love it!!

I love it!!, I love this TV. Beautiful picture, nice a huge, does a lot of extra goodies through the inputs.

BUT... I have the "dreaded" red line (of death)? It's been there for a while. We mentioned it to the people at the store we bought it from and our warranty still covers it. Repair guy says it's 99.9% likely to be a "bad panel". Bad panel = REPLACEMENT!!! While it sucks, it'll also extend the life of our TV ownership before having to guy a new one. Hopefully the new one doesn't have the same problem. Not sure if they still make this one or if they'll have to replace it with a newer (and hopefully larger) one.

The remote is a little huge, but everything is easy to find.
Failed just after 1 year & 4 months- Sony will not stand behind their product-LCD panel is made by Samsung, Here's my story, hope someone can learn from my tragic mistake. Furthermore, I just realized the LCD panel is actually made by Samsung NOT Sony. If you buy a Sony TV; why is the LCD Panel (the most important and expensive part of the TV) is made in Korea by Samsung. The picture might be good but how long will it last.....for me it only lasted 1 year and 4 months. Also If you do a simple search on Amazon you will find that Amazon does not sell Sony XBR LCD TV directly anymore since I guess they have so many complaints from their customers on the Sony LCD TV. Go ahead look and see you can find Amazon selling Sony XBR LCD TV directly...Amazon actually refer you to another brand like LG or other brands when you are looking any Sony XBR LCD TVs.....and my Full Story below:

5/9/2010- I brought the Sony XBR series TV on Amazon about 1 year and 4 months ago and now the TV have failed. The picture quality was amazing until just yesterday the picture started to degrade and now it has green clouds and rainbows all over the pictures. I just call the Sony authorize tech service from they said it will cost me $75 for the in house service since it's out of warranty. They also said that if it's the LCD panels has failed then it would cost as much as the TV itself. This is my first LCD from Sony but I have 3 other Sony TVs- 1 30" Sony CRT, 1 47" XBR rear projection and 1 65" XBR rear projection TV. All the previous Sony TVs had no problem at all and I am still using the 65" rear projection TV. What happen to Sony's quality and reliability product? I guess it went to the same place as other first rated Japanese products like Toyota. They are just too busy on cutting cost and lower their reliabilities so they can rack in the billion dollars profit. So if you like the picture quality of Sony TVs; be advice to buy their extended warranty. I wish I did because if the LCD panel failed then my LCD TV is just a big 52" black picture frame hanging on the wall. If you really, really have to get a Sony XBR LCD TV then I would recommend to get 5 years extended warranty plan for $299-it will save you a lot of frustration.
Disappointment, After much, much research opted for this set over the similar Samsung mainly due to reviews of the Samsung which mentioned "poor customer service." Paying this much I wanted the best TV & Customer Service should I need it. Being a Sony, expensive at that, I didn't think I would ever need it anyway.

Purchase, delivery throught Amazon was awesome as always. Bought Sony components including amplifier and blue ray, and Peerless (wonderful) mounts for all.

Mounted and installed easily. Beautiful! Absolutely awesome picture. In blue ray it was literally better than actually "being there." I thought 16:9 and 4:3 controls were odd, but I was fine with that. I was amazed and very happy with entire purchase.......for about 90 days!

Suddenly and without warning, the bottom third of the screen goes fuzzy. Really, I can describe it as the bottom third refreshing at such a slow rate the previous frames are visible for a good 5-10 seconds. Now this is only the bottom third of the screen mind you, the remainder is fine. It does this regardless of the source.

I contact Sony's Customer Service through website and easily order service. I precisely describe problem. Sony automated site says it's under warranty and they'll dispacth a repairman. The first technician available is a week out.(You can pick the date-neat enough) Instructions are you must remove from wall and leave where tech can get to rear of tv. Technician arrives, looks at picture for 5 seconds and says "you were absolutley right in your decription. You need an entire new screen!" He says that will take 3 weeks to arrive.

It's been over two now and I haven't yet heard from them about scheduling a date. That's were we are. Meanwhile TV still sucks and the wall is a mess.

Amazon got me the TV is less than a week. I'm going to literally video the "rescreening" process and make sure the TV is in like-new condition. Sony should have replaced the TV immediately. How much does two techs trips and a new screen cost. I'm sad. Hope you have better luck. I'm very disappointed in Sony.
Great picture for Two Years, then WORTHLESS!, I was initially enamored with the long list of features on this LCD television, and for awhile the picture was gorgeous. But just after TWO years old, the screen started malfunctioning. Certain large sections of the screen would go dark or lag or ghost. I did some research and found out that this Sony model has a history of a high rate of failure of the LCD panel. Try $3000 just to replace it. It was just after the two year mark, beyond the one year warranty and the additional year of warranty my American Express gave me. Sony won't do anything. What they should do is fess up that this model has a defect and take responsibility for it. Even Toyota would do that. Paying $2600 for a television that only lasts two years is atrocious! I won't be buying Sony to replace it, or ever again. You have been warned.
Wonderful TV, I have had this TV for a year now. I love it with one exception. Whenever there is a split second power problem it loses it's time setting and is a hassle resetting it. This happens at least once a month. There is no excuse for not having a battery back up for the clock.
Disappointed in the Sony KDL-52XBR6, As of the date of this post, the XBR6 has been replaced with the XBR9. We didn't purchase this 52XBR6 from Amazon, but it wouldn't have mattered. We had about one year and five months of good service from this TV. Then, the dreaded RED line started to appear. 3 1/2" from the right (above the green power light)there is now a very bright red line running vertical from the bottom all the way to the top of the screen. Two years and five months now since purchase, we have been living with this line for about a year. Contacting Sony last year when the line was first noticed met with the same result as the last call I just placed two days ago to explain that the line has gotten brighter and more vivid than ever before.

Sony says I should contact an authorized repair facility and Sony will offer some 'consideration' concerning the repair of this very expensive TV. Sony requires a 'diagnostic evaluation report' which is required at our expense. Fair enough, it is over the 1 year warranty after all. I spoke to two such authorized repair places. The first, told me to send in a picture to verify that the panel was indeed defective. My description over the phone was enough to come to the defective panel conclusion. For a modest $50 I would get a faxed or emailed report to say that the repair would most certainly exceed the cost of a new 52XBR9 TV. This person (Mike) was very helpful and was more than willing to say that this 'red line' problem is prevalent in the Sony TV's in this XBR series.

The second place I called said it was $100 to send someone out to verify what they concluded over the phone to be a defective LCD panel. No mention what the repair cost might be, the repairman would have to see it first.

Did I spend the money you ask, to have it verified? NO. I looked all over the Internet to see that this is a very common problem with the Sony LCD TV's. The red line problem is not always located in the same spot on the screen, but the problem and diagnosis are the same. Defective LCD panel.

Almost all of our components are Sony. TV's (over the years) DVD and Blu-ray players, CD players, amplifiers, even speakers. We will probably not buy any more Sony products, especially $3000 LCD TV's that start going bad after a year plus.
WOW, what a beautiful waste of $3000, I agree with all the reviews that the picture is fantastic.. crisp, clear and back lighting is perfect. However, like one of the other reviews by T.Lam says, enjoy it while it lasts. If you didn't purchase the extended warranty you are screwed. My panel lasted slightly longer then T.Lam's, I got 20 months of that beautiful picture, I mean crappy panel.

Problem: One day I started seeing vertical sparkly lines on the top/middle and right side of the screen. At first it was a few lines. A couple weeks later, the screen has a dozen or so sparkly lines down the middle and right side. The lines are standard grid pattern from the panel, each about 8" long.

I contacted Sony. Technician came out ($125 from my pocket) and confirmed it was a bad panel. Technician told me new panel is $2400 and said I should basically trash it, not worth fixing.
I agree, why the heck would I pay $2400+labor to replace a panel that might have the same exact problem again in short time.

Now it's time to go shopping for a new TV. Obviously, I will never buy another Sony product. When I get a new TV I'm going to take a bat to this one and hang it from my garage with a big sign that says Sony TV's are crap. Yes, I know I have anger issues. Everywhere I go I'm going to tell people not to buy Sony TV's. Each time I walk in Best Buy or HHgregg I'm going to go out of my way, walk to the TV section and direct people away from Sony, telling them the Panels are defective. Funny, My last TV cost $600 (not a Sony) and lasted 23 years.
Sony up's the ante, I have had this tv now for over a year and I must say I am still impressed. This set replaced a 40XBR2 which I am loaning to my bro. I wanted to go bigger and the idea of 120hz was appealing ever since I saw a demo of Spiderman 3 playing on a 120hz Sony Bravia almost a year prior. For me the pq is outstanding I keep Motion enhancer on standard and it's excellent. A lot of people falsely assume it's the 120hz that makes the pq look soap opera-ish but it's actually the motion enhancer which can be turned off. The 120hz is always on and has no negative effect on the pq at all. The colors are excellent and the picture is smooth. Watching Blu-Ray films on this tv is a sight to behold, it will make you a believer in movies again. I game on this bad boy and it handles everything with ease. My PS3 and 360 look outstanding and I never have to use the game mode except for when I play Rockband, FPS with no lag. The 4 HDMI ports and 2 Component makes this one tv that can handle all of your devices. The sound is phenomenal as well it plenty loud and does the trick for those late nights when you don't want your surround sound going. The menu system (just like the PS3 and PSP) is very easy to navigate. There is a lot to love with this tv but there are a few negatives. It like all LCD tv's may suffer from clouding and uneven back-lighting; if it does it should only appear in a very dark image and shouldn't be noticeable. Mine is excellent in that regard and I have no issues with this. My only wish would have been if they used the sort of glass bezel of my XBR2 that I loved. Overall this is an amazing HDTV that handles the videogames and sports games, watching the Laker's on this bad boy is a lot of fun. It may be pricey but when it comes to quality and reliability Sony IMO cannot be beat.
Great TV but Warranty difficult to deal with, I purchased this TV for about $2300 along with a free Sony Blu Ray BDS350 from Circuit City's going-out-of-business sale in Jan 2009. The TV is great and I recommend it highly. HD and blu ray blew me away. I went back within the 30-day limit and bought Circuit City's 3-year warranty for $300+, as I kept getting told that things can go wrong with these big LCD's. I was told that the CC warranty covered more than the usual things, and that they would often simply replace the defective TV with no hassle.

On April 22, 2009, I reported Mura (clouding), which had a flashlight effect from six points on the sides of the screen. It doesn't show during TV viewing except during very dark scenes, and became more annoying to me as time went on. I first called the Circuit City warranty guys thinking the set might just get promptly replaced, but no such luck. They immediately turned me over to Sony saying "the one-year Sony warranty is in effect." (My receipt for the CC warranty shows it began at date of purchase and ends Jan. 2012, so apparently, in reality, I bought a 2-year warranty not a 3-year, and paid $300+.) Sony dispatched their repairman who came and looked it over on an early Sat. morning when the TV was not warmed up enough for the problem to show. He believed that, and said he would come back. He told me Sony needs proof of a problem and to try to get pics of it so, not owning a camera, I bought a drug store instant camera which did get sharp pics of the TV screen with or without flash. But it just picked up the TV with its black screen with none of the white clouding showing on the snapshots. The repairman, thankfully, did bring a "real" camera on his next visit, took pics and left with the promise that Sony would call me in about 5 business days with the verdict. By June 17, they still had not called, so I called them and was informed that they did have a new back panel on back order and would call me for an appointment when it came in. It might take weeks. Then, a few days later they called me because they had the part. They promptly came and tried to install it -- taking ALL the guts out of the TV, unplugging all the wiring inside it, EVERYTHING, down to the plain black frame itself, then went to replace the panel but found they had ordered the wrong panel.
Starting to lose its appeal, I bought this TV in the last few days of 2008 when an attractive discount was offered if you also bought a Sony blu-ray player. It was a deal that I could not pass up. It arrived in Jan 2009 and I have been, for the most part, thrilled with the unit. The picture is excellent and the color is great.

A few months ago my wife started asking about the vertical line down the right side of the screen. I had trouble seeing it against a darker background but it was definitely there. It's in about 3 inches from the right side running from top to bottom and it about 1/2 inch wide.

I thought that it was the source that was no good, and it would come and go.

Sony BRAVIA KDL60NX720 60 inch Built almost perfect

Awesome!, This model of TV is the best I've seen, the monolithic design is incredible as it has also has gorilla glass that protects the screen from scratches, the built in wireless works great.
Perhaps the only thing that could be improved are the widgets, but are not essential so this TV is rated excellent.
The color definition is very very good, combined with the 3D, and your browser Opera.Realmente is a product of the first class. I recommend it.
Awesome TV!, I bought this TV (KDL55NX720) for $1399 new which included the Narnia 3D movie and 2 rechargable glasses and sits 12 ft away from me in my bedroom. I've had a month with this set and have to say this was a very, very good deal and I am happy with this investment. The picture is outstanding, the color and sharpness are amazing with excellent black levels.
Outstanding In Every Way, I had to replace my Samsung 46" LCD because my youngest threw a remote at it. I was disappointed because it was a great TV. I would have stayed with Samsung but their price premium had gotten too large. My first foray into LEDs was with an LG55LW5600. You can read my review...I was not ecstatic. I ultimately returned that TV (great service from Amazon!) and went back out on the search. I finally purchased the Sony 55NX72 from my local Sears at a great price. I'm very pleased. The viewing experience is different from a Samsung or LG which tends to be brighter, but Sony makes up with a picture that actually makes people look better. I'm impressed with the warm colors and crisp definition. One thing I am particularly ecstatic with is how Sony addresses letterbox bars. They've produced an LED that does not have edge bleeding. The blacks are really black. Set up was a breeze. Navigation for features is excellent. The "General" setting is generally perfect for all video types. Lastly, the bezel is stunning. While not as thin as the most recent Samsung's, Sony designed an elegant bezel that is essentially an extension of the viewing screen. If you're looking for an easy, excellent, beautiful TV then this is a great set for you.
Good deal, great TV, I purchased this TV early in January, it sat in the box for about one month before it was intalled, so I was anxious to see if the tv worked ok and didn't get damage from the "mail delivery"! I am glad to say it works great and the graphics are phenomenal. We have it set up with surround sound so I can't tell you about the TV speakers but I saw other reviews complaining of poor sound. I am happy with this purchase, a moving/relocating company actually delivered the TV and they were very cautious. I would do this again and will recommend to friends.
MUCH CHEAPER AT COSTCO $1199, This price is way over the top ! This vendor seems like he is non-competitive.
almost perfect, great TV and easy to set up. Clean appearance of the Gorilla glass compliments our interior.

One little issue the the support base, a little weak and unstable. Need to support ends of the main body to stabilize.
the greatest TV ever!, This the greatest TV we have ever had so far. We looked at a lot of stores. Amazon had the best price by far.the picture is clear as glass. We have small grandchildren running around with toy and things, so the gorilla glass is wonderfull. I don"t know about all that fancy stuff but this is a great TV.And the price on Amazon is the best we could find. IT came when they said it would. It was in perfect condison.
Sony 55" TV does not work at all., I purchased a Sony 55 " 3D HI-DEF Flat panel TV. Paid over $1,600.00 plus over $200.00 for the 5 year warrenty. The TV has NEVER worked at all. I purchased the TV a month BEFORE the Super Bowl and Sony has still not rectified the situation. Yes, they have my money and they couldn't care less if I have a working TV. Sony once was a high quality company that cared about it's customers. It is more than apparent to me that those days are long gone.. Yep, I regret buying a Sony TV. They are giving me the run a round in resolving the issue of this Non-functioning TV. I have purchased Sony TV's and components many times in the past. I can't say I will ever again. Products can have defects, I understand that, but to do nothing to remmedy the situation is Sony's "New policy" Very sad.
The 55" Sony Bravia, I had a 40" Sony Bravia for a number of years and decided to upgrade. The 55" does not have the FREEZE fuction, which I used a lot. Also the FAVORITES list is more trouble to use than it is worth.Otherwise this is a superb TV. Amazingly thin and with, I feel, unsurpassed picture quality.
Great picture, great LED TV quality, I was in the market for a new flat panel TV to replace a smaller 32 inch samsung LCD we had. After going to big box stores to check out some offerings in person, I decided to order online as this will usually get you the best price for almost any purchase. I experienced the plasma vs LED-LCD TV dilemma and ended up going with this LED TV.

The black levels on this TV are absolutely great and nearly the darkest possible on an LED TV, which is something that plasma TVs are regarded as having an advantage of over brighter LED LCD panels. Dark scene black levels are just about as dark as the black bezel on this TV and really make for great detail and contrast. Out of the box the picture quality was good but I'd recommend playing with the settings to get a better picture quality as it can really make a difference. I used some settings found on the AVS Forum NX720 owners thread and adjusted the ones that looked best to me slightly to my liking. The results are blu ray and high def content streaming (like HD Netflix content) that looks amazing. I have cable and the HD quality isn't amazing...but that is due to cable TV quality issues, not the TV's otherwise blu ray and high definition content from other sources wouldn't look so amazing. I may switch providers eventually because of this.

The extra content features like widgets and apps, I don't see myself using much at all aside from Netflix but they are there nonetheless and work okay. Highly recommended TV if you can get it at this price or lower.

    Magnavox 42MF439B F7 42 Inch 1080p HDMI Doesn't Work

Ten months on and we probably wouldn't buy this again.,
Overall it's been an ok TV and as such I won't give this TV two stars.

Here is the list of our issues (cons):
    - Video quality of the over the air tuner is sub-par compared to our older zinwell non-HD converter box. Basically, the TV doesn't to a great job smoothing the edges of video.

    - Poor upscaling. Our old TV was a 36" Sony SD TV and our Nintendo Wii looked great on it. On the Magnavox, the video from the Wii is not sharp at all and frankly looks like of crappy.

    - Does not display the current time/ next program info. This is something we especially missed when we moved from our Zinwell-Sony combo to the Magnavox. The Zinwell would always show you the current time and current program name. You could press another button and even find out the name of the next program and the channel name. The Magnovox only shows the number of the channel you are on. There is an "Info" button to find out the name of the program, but there is no way to find out what's going to be on next.

    - Slow start up. After pressing the power button on the remote or TV, it takes 16 seconds before you hear or see anything (actually after 2 seconds it does print the text "Digital Television", which very aggravating).

    - Some 5.
    Worth The Price, The Good:
Great picture and resolution for the money. Adequate features and super easy setup. Analog image is excellent, and switching display settings is very simple. HDTV is as good as any major brand.

    The Bad:
Why is it inexpensive? A few reasons: 1st, no VGA-in port. If you want to connect via VGA for your pc or laptop you're out of luck. Remote is cheap and lacks features. Does take about 1/2 second to switch between channels, but the channel display is a non-issue.

    The Ugly:
No optical audio output. Major bummer for connecting older receivers. I bought this for my studio/media room, but without an optical out it's not what I planned. My bad for not checking, but, still a decent upgrade from my old 32" 1st gen lcd.

    Overall Opinion:
All in all you get a good quality, Japanese-made lcd tv (with less ports) for a great low price. The onscreen channel display really isn't an issue near as much the lack of in- and out-puts. If you use HDMI exclusively that's not really an issue, 3 HDMI's are more than adequate. Remote is basic, but overall easy setup and excellent picture on this tv is a win for the budget-conscious consumer.
HDMI Doesn't Work, I had the same problem as the other folks. After about 1 year, all of my HDMI inputs failed. Out of warranty. Nothing they can do. Have to buy a new TV. Don't waste your time.
No regrets, an overall bargain, I purchased via a different online vendor (sale plus another discount paid for the shipping) - the TV's box was well-packed with Styrofoam and the box took a beating (ala UPS) - but no damage to the unit. I've had the unit about 3 weeks and thus far, I have no complaints - nor do I expect any (fingers crossed, of course). As another reviewer noted, the remote is basic - very basic, but functional. I too was slightly disappointed with a few of the input limitations, however there are a host of alternatives with which to tinker :) I'm not particularly impressed with the stand - it "looks" nice, but it sure doesn't feel very stable - the base is plastic, a rather thin-feeling plastic, at least to me. If the unit is never going to be moved, I suspect it's a safe set-up, however if there is any chance of the thing being moved regularly (e.g., plugging items into the back where all the input jacks are housed) or perhaps reachable by small children, I'd vote for securing the thing to the wall or whatever it is housed in - just to be safe.

The picture is as clear as any other 1080's I've seen, but I haven't viewed my unit right next to another, therefore my observation is just that, my personal observation. The sound is much better than I expected - at times I've caught myself looking over my shoulder or similar as I've heard the "smaller sounds" quite clearly - a crackle of a tree branch has made me look to see what I broke or dropped :)

Sure, I wished the remote and the units itself had a few more "perks" (e.g., the time on the display....who knew I'd ever miss it?), but for the steal/price, I simply cannot find enough to whine about to make me regret the purchase. I'm not a big Magnovox fan - I'm a Sony-aholic....
Don't Waste your Money, I, like another reviewer, have an issue with the HDMI inputs on this TV - they don't work. I did get this TV at a bargain, and after 9 months, would not buy again at the bargain price. There are 3 HDMI and 2 RCA ports on this television. Now that I'm unable to use HDMI, I can only connect 2 devices to my TV. I also purchased this because it is a 1080 model, but I am unable to obtain the better quality picture using HDMI cables.

There is a software upgrade on the Magnavox website, but it only corrected the issue for 2 months. Additional attempts to re-fix the issue with the upgrade have failed. Now only parts are covered on the 'warranty,' and the estimate for repair is 50 - 75% of my purchase price.

Bottom line, this TV has a known issue. Don't waste your money on this model.
Fantastic HDTV!, I don't know if I have a different model than the first reviewer, but I have none of the issues that were written about. My menus disappear quickly and are easy to navigate. Got this tv setup by running the channel programming, and then I set it up on a desk before I wall mounted it. I was watching NFL football in HD 1080i and it's amazing!! The colors are bright and true, and I hate to say, truer color than my more expensive Samsungs, not to say they aren't great tv's also, but the crispness of the picture and black levels are awesome. What I also like about this tv, is that you can change the screen mode, and it keeps the setting for regular tv not in HD, it will keep the wide mode, which fills the 16:9 screen with no black sidebars, yet when on an HD channel, it will display true 16:9 HDTV format. Also, on some LCDTVs, regular tv broadcasts look like crap, but not on this set, regular tv is smooth and good looking, and not pixelated and jagged. I am very picky about lcdtvs, I took back a Visio after I got it home and it looked horrible compared to my Samsungs. This TV is made by Funai, who also makes Phillips and Sylvania sets, and it certainly ranks up there with the best in picture quality, and for less money.
Doesn't last long, Great picture-sound ok-plenty of connections(no digital audio out though). But if you google this model and problems, it's not a pretty picture. Alot have failed, including mine, with the same problem. Although it can be repaired, Can't say I'd recommend buying a tv that has a known issue.
On Sale Superbowl Weekend at Target for $499.00, Bought for $499.00 plus tax at Target on Superbowl weekend. Had a $100 giftcard and sold my standard definition 34" for $150....so it only cost me $325.00 tax included. Bargain. I bought a blu ray player w/wifi and netflix ready. Been watching great movies for a month and a half.....no problems. Use with Tivo. Nice sound. Use headphones for loud movies.
Nice product - but one annoying feature, I guess I should have changed the channel while I was staring at this TV in the showroom. Every time you change the channel an annoying (and LARGE) menu screen pops up that obliterates the top-left corner of the screen with:

    1) The name of the show being televised (not bad)
    2) The type of format display you selected as your default (Zoom In, Automatic, 14.x display, etc.,) I don't really need to be reminded.
    3) The LANGUAGE mode you selected...come on...

This pop-up menu is LARGE and blocks out a very big portion of the picture. It also takes too long to load and disappear - so it's very annoying while 'surfing' through channels.

I looked through the manual to see if there is a way of disabling this feature; but alas, I couldn't find one. I'll call Customer Support and if the popup cannot be disabled - I'm considering returning it.
