VIZIO E420VL 42-inch Class LCD HDTV 120Hz 1080p Volume troublesome

Easy set up and great picture, This TV was great out of the box. Set-up was super easy and the menu was very simple to navigate. The picture quality was great. Vivid color and contrast. The sound was not the greatest, but leagues better than our 32 inch Vizio we purchased 1 year ago. Unfortunately, 1 day after set up 1 vertical and 1 horizontal line appeared. I immediately called Vizio and within minutes had a work order put in for the unit (with some additional time to send photos of the issue thru email). 3 days later Vizio decided to replace our unit. Since we purchased a TV over 40 inches, all the service would be done in-home. 10 days later a new TV was hand delivered to our home. The picture quality was just as great minus the lines!! The experience of dealing with Vizio was pleasant. We were still able to watch the TV set with the lines present..I wonder how I would have felt if we had no picture and had to be with out a TV for 2 weeks.
Replacement television, Our 32" decided to stop working, so my husband and I went to Walmart to search for a replacement television.
The picture resolution is great, sounds perfect!!
Only downside is the USB port will ONLY play pictures and not movies.
Overall great investment, I recommend this purchase to anyone.
Broke down in two months!, We got this TV and within two months there are vertical lines in the TV. Vizio customer service is fairly painful when it comes to getting the technical support.
Vizio Thank You, We stay in our RV a lot and the one we recently purchased had a Flat Screen TV that goes down into a well to hide it when not in use. The problem had been the speakers in the one which came with the RV had downward facing speakers. The sound went into the well cavity and it could barely be heard even on the loudest setting.

The RV manufacture was gracious enough to pay for this Vizio replacement TV which we selected and we love it. It has frontward facing speakers, it has great picture quality, the resolution and color are wonderful.

I would highly recommend this Vizio Flat Panel to all my friends. It is reasonably priced and has great quality.
VIZIO #E42-VL LCD HDTV, After weeks searching the Internet for best deal and what others had to say about this TV, I final made my choice....sort of.
I must admit my decision came within seconds of making a major mistake. I had ordered a Samsung 43" Plasma HD TV from Walmart's website. That TV sold for $499.00 with local sales taxes. The day I went to pick up the Samsung at Walmart customer service desk, I decided to head back to the TV section to take a final look at the televisions they have on the wall. On the wall was the Samsung 43" set, and from what I could tell the Plasma model looked horrible. Just flat, now jumping out at you, and to make one think this was a great TV. Couple TV's down the wall they had this VIZIO 42" #E420VL 1080p.LCD with 120hz refresh rate and 1000.00:1 Dynamic Contrast ratio, and 5ms Response Time. It has (PIP) and POP. What other feature I liked most was the dual 10W speaker "Out in front" at the bottom. This is very important when it comes to selection a LCD with poor audio that are on the back side and one has to buy a Sound Bar to get the sound right.
Results: I made a fast jog to the Customer Service Desk, and ask the lady to cancel my purchase on the Samsung and instead add the VIZIO Tv to my bill, which cost $100.00 more.
Great tv. Sound has somthing to be desired., The good: We love the picture quality on this TV. We tirelessly researched many brands before we purchased this TV. The reviews on several sites sited that the picture quality was great. This TV was easy to set up, and the remote is easy to use. The options for picture quality control are very nice as are the ones for controlling the audio.

The bad: Though the options for controlling the audio are very nice, the audio itself is very poor. We read this in other reviews and did not pay much mind to it since we were just putting this TV in our bedroom and did not need to have a TV with superior sound quality. However, the problem is that the audio actually fades out, (not completely) despite how much you turn it up. We turn the thing up all the way and still have trouble hearing the muted sounds. Fiddling with the many audio options did nothing to fix this. We will be purchasing an external speaker bar for this TV. I also wish it had more input jacks on the side, as the ones in the back are hard to get to for me. (I'm 5 foot and the TV is just too high for me!)

All in All: I would purchase this TV again, even though I am disappointed in the audio issue. I have had no other problems and I love the picture quality. Besides, this TV brand is the only made in the USA (as far as I know anyway) and whenever possible, I like to support our countries products over foreign products. The price for a great picture quality TV was really good.
Volume troublesome, I originally bought this thru Amazon but received it with a smashed screen, mostly in part due to UPS and their disregard. Returned and bought direct from WalMart. The picture is very nice but the volume/speakers are extreme. Volume is relatively steady when watching tv but is extremely erratic during movies. It is quite annoying to babysit the remote the entire time.
poor lifespan, poor sound, I bought the TV at Walmart. It seemed like a good deal. It went out completely after 2 years. I looked online and found this is a common problem with this TV and there is very little you can do as a remedy. It will cost around $250 if I decide to fix it. Also, the sound quality is inferior to the old Sanyo big box TV I replaced. As soon as I hooked it up, I noticed it was harder to understand the dialogue in movies. The sound is even sub par when I bypass the speakers with Sony speakers through the back of the TV; so apparently it has to do with the soundboard inside the TV. I just replaced it with a Sanyo HDTV and was very pleased to hear decent sound again.
Great tv at a great price, This is my second vizio tv and I'm more than pleased with it. It gives a great picture and has pretty good sound, also the 3 hdmi ports are very useful. Overall I'm extremely happy with this tv and would recommend it to anyone.
Best TV in class, I've had this TV for 2 months and couldn't be happier. The picture quality is fantastic in all lighting conditions. The setup is good and the options are pretty good. Changing inputs via the menu is a little cumbersome and slow but I doubt there are many other ways to do it.

Look through some of the other reviews for ways to make the picture even better but I found the default settings to be a really good starting point.

The audio is TV audio. It's not great but it's really not bad. I'm coming from some some pretty decent high end audio. The sound is a little 'tinny' as others have mentioned but once you get used to it it's not that bad. I will still say that you can't beat external speakers and I may still go that route in the future. But I can live with it for now.

I think the remote kind of sucks but I only have to use it for changing the view (wide, panoramic, etc.). I've moved all other functions to my Tivo Remote.

This is my first HDTV so I don't really know how other TVs handle standard definition. Standard definition looks... ok on this TV. Not great, not horrible.

  • 1080p Full HD.Ambient Light Sensing technology.SRS TruVolumeTM and SRS TruSurround HDTM audio.120Hz refresh rate.100,000 to 1 Dynamic Contrast Ratio. The VIZIO E420VL 42" LCD HDTV packs a powerful punch at a price that doesn't break the bank. Top of the line features such as full 1080p high definition resolution, 120 Hz and 100,000:1 contrast ratio deliver a picture that is crisp, clear and awe inspiring. The digital ambient light sensor ensures that you'll always have the most optimal picture by adjusting the brightness of the screen based on the conditions of your room. Rounding out the package are advanced sound technologies from SRS labs and 3 HDMI ports.

Viore LC40VF60 1080p LCD Television Very Good TV

Dont do it, My Viore 40in, 1080p went out 2 weeks prior to having it 1 year. the manufacture sent over a repair guy who could not get parts from them. might i add that this was sept. 2011 and today i still have not tv. i called today reqarding the status and they acted as if they had no clue about the status. i will never buy another viore again, get a real brand name.
This TV was a great investment!, This is the first HD Tv that I have ever purchased and I must say that it was such a great buy for the money. I don't have experience with other HD televisions to compare the quality, but I think it has a great sharp picture and we are very pleased with the speaker quality as opposed to other reviewers. This TV however, I must admit is not in a large room, rather a 12' x 12' bedroom.
Very Good TV, This TV is a very good deal at great price. The picture and sound quality are perfect. Love the swivel mount and great viewing angle. Would recommend it to anybody.
Very Good TV, a notch below perfect!, If I could rate this TV more accurately I would give it a 4.7 out of 5 possible stars. The quality video-wise for the TV is outstanding! It is crystal clear video quality, no complaints, other than it is a very, very, VERY unnoticeable margin between great and excellent. The difference is so small, however, that it can be overlooked with it's price. The Sound quality however, suffered a bit. The bass has to be turned to a low setting and don't try to crank everything up to max. The speakers are not of the best quality and cannot handle much, but it is also disregard-able as long as the bass remains on a relatively low setting. The delay/lag for this TV is incredibly unnoticeable, even when using Component cables there is almost no delay between the input and response. Overall, if you are looking for a pretty good quality HDTV at a low price, this is your best buy.

SONKDL40EX400 - BRAVIA EX400 LCD HDTV An outstanding set, especially for TV viewers and gamers

An outstanding set, especially for TV viewers and gamers, Sony has long been one of the better TV makers, going back to the Trinitron and later the WEGA. The Bravia series has remained high quality machines, boasting great pictures, not to mention some of the lowest repair rates in the industry. The 40EX400 lives up to that billing, sporting a terrific picture and some solid features at an astonishingly low price.

Panasonic VIERA TC-P42X3 42-Inch 720p 600 Hz Plasma HDTV Started so well...had to send back

Plasma HDTV, I purchased this TV as a Christmas gift for my husband and he loves it! If 720p is supposed to mean it's not as clear as those with higher resolution, we can't tell the difference. It has a perfect, clear picture and excellent sound besides being reasonably priced. I wouldn't have thought to buy online until my daughter told me about Amazon's return policy. The contract shipper delivered the set and made sure it worked, then removed all packaging materials so I didn't have to deal with recycling. I highly recommend this HDTV.
Great TV for the price!!, I purchased this 50 inch TV from Amazon "Like New" for $558. The TV I received came in it's original unopened packaging. As for the picture, once the picture settings were adjusted (good settings for this TV are all over the internet), and I turned it to a high def channel (using a good HDMI cable---Monster HDMI cable reg $39 for $10 at Wal-Mar), I was blown away! 99% of the buying public will not be able to tell a difference between this 720p and a 1080p.
Great TV, I have a 5 yr old LG lcd. I had been happy with it. IT is in a room with a wall of windows. I put the plasma in a darker bedroom, Setup was easy. Shows great. And now the LG is looking pretty old. I get 3 HD channels on cable and the picture is so good I see little difference, while the LG shows a great difference. Am happy with the TV.
Nice tv for the bedroom, Our bedroom tv went out and we wanted a plasma to replace it that was good but cheap. I was impressed by number of positive reviews, and more importantly, the lack of negative reviews. A black Friday sales price of ~$410 put this over the top.
Setup was easy and the quality of the picture is good for the price.
Couldn't be more pleased, This is the second 50", 720P plasma I have purchased. The new one has more features and the picture is excellent. I've never had any glare problems with either TV. I've bought LCD TVs for other people but prefer the plasma for color and picture. I'm really satisfied with this product. Let me say the delivery was excellent also. It seems the company hired two retired elderly gentlemen for the Christmas season. They brought it in a van and were very helpful and courteous.
Started so well...had to send back, I was v excited to find this on Amazon. It arrived in 4 days, delivery guys were great. I loved this telly. However, within 4 weeks, a pixel went. I had read the reviews, the 1080 was plagued with this issue. Unfortunately, my 720 version has the same problem. Amazon were excellent, and the TV is being picked up at no cost. Top line, panasonic aint what they used to be....
Great TV, but No Web Browser, We got the 42" 720p Plasma last week at Best Buy and it's great, and a luxurious upgrade from our 2004 clunky TV. The picture quality is excellent which a lot of these other reviews are saying. The set up was easy, too. There is a limited amount of HDMI outlets, but I think we'll figure it out and get by. I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 only because I was disappointed when I got home to discover that "internet ready" does not mean it comes with a web browser. I don't think we're going to use any of the app's that come with this TV except maybe Netflix, but given that our TV is in the basement and we're only down there to watch TV and don't hang out, I don't imagine I'm going to start coming down there to turn on the radio app's or check FB.
Love this TV, This is a great tv with plenty of features. We were shopping for a tv for our bedroom and wanted a 37 to 40 inch at least. I came across this one and couldn't believe the price but i read all the reviews and bought it, couldn't be happier with it. The picture is outstanding and the set up is very easy!! You can go wrong with this one.
Excellent Product - Purchased Used, I purchased the 42" Panasonic Plasma used from "Amazon Warehouse Deals", and it arrived on the promised day (although I did have to call the delivery company to secure this after they initially said it would not be until the following week). The delivery service dropped it off, and I could tell the item had been repackaged (which I expected). Once set up however, the item looked brand new. I found no scuffs, scratches, or even finger prints on the television. I would have assumed it to be brand new. The set itself was very easy to set up, and even though it comes with a fairly thick manual, I found that it was easy enough to find the items of interest to us (e.g. we could skip sections on how to view photos through a usb drive, etc, and get right to things that mattered to us like adjusting the picture and using the remote). We had it hooked up to a DVD, Wii, and external sound system in about 10 minutes. The onscreen controls are very easy to understand, and the remote is intuitive. I found it easier to understand than our 10 year old TV with inscrutable on screen menu's and symbols.

    Three things I really liked:
    1. The inputs can be renamed. So if you hook your DVD up to the RCA Video input, you can label it as "DVD" so that in your onscreen menu it says what it is. Same for the Wii, etc. So when you change inputs there is no more trying to figure out what "Line 1" and "Line 2" etc point to.

    2. If you either purchase a wi-fi adapter that hooks into the TV, or (as we did) run an ethernet cable to your router, you can access the built in apps for pandora, facebook, netflix, etc.
poor product, worst service, Received this product three weeks ago and still can't get it to work wireless. The only thing that is more annoying than the TV is Panasonic's customer service. The TV disconnects and rebuffers so often that I give up and watch my old set to finish any Netflix movie. Three calls, three hours wasted, and I haven't seen a serviceman yet. I was told that this is my network problem and I should resolve it with my provider. However, all my other wireless products work fine, including a Roku player (for Netflix movies) that is twice as far from the wireless router as this TV. I want a TV that works or a serviceman to check it out, not a lot of finger pointing and excuses. I guess that customer service is not so important to Panasonic any more. I will keep this in mind the next time I shop, and hope readers will also. I have just set up a return of the TV with Amazon and ordered a Samsung.
