Target BF buy worth the price of 298, Yes, this was a Bf buy at $298. For that price do not ever expect high end quality, or too many bells and whistles.
For $298 expect what it says it does. It is 1080p capable. It has 3 HDMI ports. It was $298.
I cant stress the price point enough. You absoulutely get what you pay for. I paid for two. One is a gift, the other was a favor. I hooked it up and here is my opinion.
The picture quality is maybe a little above mediocre for a 1080p tv. It is definitely a huge step up from any CRT TV. It is not an industry leader by any means, but it gets the basic job done quite nicely for its price point.
Sports fans, beware. This set is prone to fast motion blurr. Slow motion looks fantastic, but as soon as that camera starts waving around, do not expect to read any banners in the background clearly. Other than that, you will have a nice pic to watch the game on.
Movie buffs, well again a nice pic, not the best, but not the worst either. 298 DOLLARS.
Gamers... I havent tried it, but from my opinion it may not be the best spec tv for your situation either.
This TV is best suited for Occasional viewers, who enjoy a crisp, HD tv show now and again.
Overall for the price on BF, you cannot go wrong, as long as it works. I would definitely not pay more than 450 for this tv though. If I had to I would most likely drop down 8" for a name brand higher quality tv. BUT FOR 298!!!! C'MON.
not bad at all, So I got this hdtv amazingly cheap on black friday (almost half off). I would say you get what you pay for but perhaps for this tv you get more.
Cons:
-bad contrast ratio; way too much noise, you have to adjust it to somewhere around "20" on the picture settings
-60hz; but for some reason the active frequency on the tv just says "24 hz" while watching blu ray movies for some reason. Just seems to be too fuzzy.
Pros:
-3 hdmi inputs is pretty decent
-fairly sharp
-vga input pretty useful
-1080p.
Great TV!, My family bought 3 of these TV's at Target, on Black friday(2010).
No Sound - Westinghouse never fixed product after mailed in!, Everything about the TV is worth the price except for one minor problem. When I fast forward or use any portion of my Dish Network DVR, the sound goes out!! It also goes out if the TV is left on for longer peroids of time (movies, football games) I don't understand why, but I contacted Westinghouse about the problem and they were very nice about having it sent in for repairs. The only problem is, I got the TV back from service today and it's in worse condition than it was before! Not only does the sound still go out, but now the screen is permanently damaged at the corners (probably from shipping). I followed the tracking both ways and they apparently didn't even work on the product.
I'm going to return the TV at Target.
The Best Bang for the Buck, This is a great tv. I say that as someone who once worked in the home theater department at Best Buy. I have been around all kinds of TV's from 19 inch store brands to 60 inch Pioneers. In my days at Best Buy I often waved customers away from Westinghouse. When the opportunity arose to get a 40 inch for $300 dollars I threw caution out the window and decided to give it a shot. I am so glad I did. I can't believe the amazing picture quality. I have hooked up regular cable, X-box 360 through composite, and Blu-ray through HDMI. They all look great. The menus are a little dated, and 60hz will always blur a bit on sports. All in all though this is a great tv. I couldn't be happier. Also do yourself a favor and buy all your accessories from Amazon. Amazon has the best price and quality on HDMI cables around.
Purchased after blackfriday for $298 and I still feel ripped off., I'm not going to go into detail, but my 5 year old 32" LCD (also a westinghouse) looks 100x better than this tv. There are so many ridiculous artifacts, the sharpness is far too high even when set to "0", and my videogames (even the menu) look far "jaggier". It's just an awful, low quality tv. I should have just sucked it up and bought a better, more expensive tv.
Great TV,
Low price/low expectations, but High Praise!, I purchased this television on Black Friday 2010 from Target and for the under $400 price, did not expect a great HDTV. I was expecting a "good enough" tv to watch the HD Channels on cable and the occasional sporting event or movie. Needless to say I am more than happy with this great TV. The picture quality on 1080P channels is amazing and the look and finish are great. It is a great fit for my small living room and but isn't so small that the viewing experience is diminished.
westinghouse 40"1080 lcd tv, My husband stood in line black friday for 6 hours to purchase this tv for me at Target as a christmas gift. It looked great out of the box and showed a decent picture. However you do "get what you pay for" with this tv. After approximately 2 months, I was sitting in bedroom watching the news when I heard a "POP"! The tv had turned off. I thought maybe we had a short in the outlet but the other components were still on. Would not turn on when plugged in other outlets either. I ended up taking it back to Target and received a full refund. Thank You Target! In short, save your money and spend a little more for a better tv. Very disappointing.
Better than expected, I bought this TV from Target on Black Friday, like a lot of other people. Admittedly, I didn't have very high expectations, but the specs looked pretty good, other than the 2000:1 contrast ratio. That's pretty low but for the $300 I paid for it, I'm not complaining.
If it was some random brand that I had never heard of, I wouldn't have touched it. I've looked at Westinghouse products before though, and they make some pretty decent mid-range LCD computer monitors. So I decided to take the risk.
When I got it home, I unboxed it immediately. I was thinking it was gonna look pretty cheap, but it was nice and glossy like my Samsung. I hooked it up to my computer using the VGA output, to test out the picture. To my surprise, it was actually quite crisp and nice. I played some games on it and didn't see any noticeable ghosting or anything.
The speakers are pretty lack-luster, however. It's decent for watching TV, but for movies, music, or games, the built in speakers just don't cut it. They distort a little at high volumes and don't have any bass. I never had any intention of using the built in speakers though, I hooked it up to my surround sound as soon as I put it in my living room. I was disappointed that it didn't have TOSLINK outputs though. My receiver doesn't support HDMI, and the only way I can get digital sound is through a TOSLINK cable. It would have been nice if they included an Optical output, but it's not that big of a deal.
For the money, the TV is really nice overall. It's got a great picture, just don't use the built in speakers. I would recommend it for anyone who has a $500 and under price range.

Contrast Ratio: 2000:1.RoHS Compliant, Detachable Base Stand, Wall Mountable.Screen Refresh Rate: 60 Hz.Maximum Resolution: 1921 x 1080.Vertical Resolution: 1080p. The 40" LCD 1080p HDTV from Westinghouse is big enough to feel like home theater, but compact enough to fit the experience in a family room, bedroom or den.
