Repair Repair Repair I bought this and it lasted 11 months had to have it repaired due to no picture $400 and then one year later same problem then one year later same problem for a $1500 tv it is a piece of junk. I will never buy samsung again even though in consumer reports this was suppose to be the best tv.
Avoid Samsung at all cost We bought this TV a couple of years ago and it was working fine till 3 months ago. The screen on the left side started flickering and the TV shuts off. When I wrote to Samsung about the problem I got a do not reply to sender email from Samsung saying that the product is out of warranty and it is not their problem. They did provide contact information for local TV repairman Samsung certified who wanted $260 flat to do an onsite inspection. Actual cost of repair and parts are extra. On searching the web this seems to be a prevalent issue with Samsung TV's and Monitor's attributed to their use of cheap low quality capacitors. Samsung doesn't seem to care about this as most of the failures occur in year 2 to 3 when the warranty has expired.I would strongly recommend not buying this product till Samsung has taken appropriate measures to win the customer confidence back.
Still going strong after 3 years I bought this TV back in 2008 with the automated mount moves up down side to side with the Samsung remote and it has been stellar. Granted it is located in my room and gets nowhere near as much use as my family room TV but I have nothing to complain about. The sound isn't the best in the world and I don't care to put even a sound bar in my bedroom but it isn't a deal killer.
excellent tv Bought it for inlaws. It runs 4 hours a day since 2008 w/o any issues or service calls.Excellent video quality. I think larger bezel allowed Samsung to cool this tv better thusextending its life.
Another One Dead I also purchased this TV almost three years to the date was showing a great picture until it just started vertical streaking the picture.
Great T.V. but too complicated beyond basic functions I've had the T.V for some time now and it still works very well..
stopped working properly It worked really well for the first two years then unexpectedly it started having problems. The TV literally takes 30 minutes to warm up before it is able to be used. When I first turn the TV on it has a large black spot/streak in the middle of the screen. After about 20 minutes it switches to having lines on the left side of the screen. This usually last for about 10 minutes and then the picture is perfect again. I have tried contacting Samsung to no avail. I understand warranties and all that but I also think that a $1500 HDTV should work well for many years. I have an old 27 inch TV in my garage that still works. I bought that TV for my college dorm in 1998!!! There is no reason an expensive TV should stop working properly.
Still impressive after 3 years I got this TV as a graduation present back in summer of 2008. Today it still works as good as the day I first got it. I have used it almost every single day usually for an average of three hours. I haven't noticed any degradation in quality and performance at all I hope I didn't just jinx myself. I do make sure I wipe off dust from time to time as I just really like the clean glossy black finish. There is a halo effect due to the clear glass frame at the edges but that doesn't bother me much. This should really only be an annoyance when you want it to be absolutely pitched black in the room when watching a movie. Otherwise I like the look of the border during the day.I have used it with my PS3 as a second monitor for my PC and survived a move to my new home. There are plenty of cable connections in the back but I have only used the HDMI ports. I used the on/off timer feature as my backup alarm clock. I like the flexibility it allows such specifying recurrence via day of the week. I also like the backlit remote control.
Worked great for 3 years and now a Dead Panal! Bought this TV in Novmeber of 2008 on Amazon worked great until january 2012 when 2 vertical red laser like barcode strips just started showing up on the screen. Had it checked out at a tv repair shop and they told me that the screen is shot. Really?!! after only 3 years of light use in the bedroom. And the touch of color is a joke had that replaced 2 months later after it started melting and cracking the whole tv frame from the heat that this sucker puts out. The second toc frame thats on now did the same thing but only took longer to show the wear about a year later. Still fighting with Samsung to do something about this issue but there giving me the run around. What i'm worried about is I just bought a new Samsung 55 3D smart tv 7000 model in October and i'm wondering how long this one is going to last. So be careful with Samsung tv's there great when they work.
DO NOT BUY THIS SET DO NOT BUY!!!! I bought this set 3 years ago and have experienced the turning on/turning off 20 times in a minute with not picture issue that everyone else has. The technician said it was bad capacitors then a bad power supply then a bad main board. The class action suit takes care of the capacitors and power supply but you are stuck with $488 for a new main board and labor. DO NOT BUY this TV!!!!! It is junk and Samsung is not standing behind their product. My cheap Vizio has lasted longer than this overpriced paperweight.
