  • The USB harddrive compatibility is very limited and the Customer service is pretty bad! I purchased this model LN40B650 in August2009.I was so glad to find it has feature of media player in the beginning. But I was really disappointed after I found it cannot read any video files e.g. avibigger than 2.0GB saved on my USB driveincluding my USB powered portable harddrive. then I had Live Chat with Samsung's customer service guys for a few times and only one guy told me I should connect my USB harddrive to the upper USB port rather than the lower USB port but it doesn't work eithereven the TV cannot find my USBpowered harddrive either HP or WD brands. So I tried my another WD harddrive which is powered via a separate power cord the TV can find this type of harddrive but it still can only read the video files which are less than 2.0GB. So I had Live Chat with the customer support guys again and again unfortunately I found no guys are familiar with this feature of this TV set and of course I couldn't get any help from them.
Too many problems. I originally bought the LN A650. I would delete channels but they would not stay deleted. After a month of communicating with Samsung they arranged a repairman to inspect it. He claimed it needed a new brain. It was the last time I saw him. He was going to order a new brain but would not return my calls nor the calls by Samsung.Samsung eventually sent me a replacement tva LN B650 which was the newer model. I give full marks to Samsung for doing so but it took 2 months of emails over 30 in total and phone calls to have it done. However the tv I was sent also had issues. I have 4 HDMI ports and 4 AVI ports. Out of 8 different ports only 1 HDMI port works. I didn't realize it until I bought a blu ray player and a PS3 and only one worked. I tried 3 different HDMI cables nothing. Tried different AVI cables. Nothing.Samsung had me reset the tv. Still nothing.Samsung then admitted their is a problem with the back of the tv and apologized for having 7 ports that don't work. What are the odds that I ended up with 2 Samsung tvs that had 2 separate issues? I don't know but it is too many problems for me to stick with Samsung products.
18 month/$1300 TV heading to the trash heap My husband researched televisions for weeks before deciding on purchasing the $1300 Samsung from Amazon for our place down south. The set was wonderful. The picture was great and we thoroughly enjoyed it for the six months a year we used it.Now here we are 18 months later and out of warranty with what my husband calls our $1300 anchor and the set will cost almost as much to fix as a new one is to buy at today's prices.
a great product We bought one about 17 months ago and the TV has worked great and the picture quality is fantastic. We have it hooked up to a rooftop antenna. People that come to visit us comment on how much better the picture is than their own TV. I would definitely recommend the LN40B650.
Perfect Blend A perfect blend of tech spec and price. I still get comments about how much better the picture looks on my TV than on friends. 120Hz needs to be changed often though. Looks great on some things makes others look like soap operas or home movies.
Flashing Red Light I bought this Samsung LN40B650 back in March of 2009 after researching other comparable TV sets and reading the very positive reviews. I primarily used this TV for playing PS3 games and watching NFL games on Sundays. Last month after only a year and 11 months of use the TV would not turn on. The red stand by light now blinks continuously in 8 seconds intervals and in rapid succession whenever I try using the remote. I contacted Samsung who attempted to help me by taking me through a few steps1 They had me disconnect the TV from the surge protector and connect it directly to the wall socket.2 They had me reset the TV using the remote. After both these steps failed to resolve the issue they suggested I take it into a TV repair shop since its out of warranty. After a Google and YouTube search I learned that several other Samsung owners had a very common and similar issue with different models. Checking for bad capacitors and replacing them seemed to fix the problem according to them.
Very happy with our new Samsung HDTV This is our first flat screen TV got tired of waiting for our old tube TV to die.Very happy with the picture quality and the TV was pretty simple and quick to setup.Connected an Apple TV box. Makes it very easy to watch Netflix streaming. The TV comes with software for sending video and images from a PC to theTV but that software only runs on a PC. Since I use a Mac I searched for analternative and found Vuze which is a bittorrent client with the ability to streamdownloaded content to a TV specifically to Samsung TVs. The only disappointmentwith that is that once you start streaming a video from Vuze to the TV you haveto watch the whole thing in one sitting there is no ability to pause. This appearsnot be be a shortcoming of Vuze but rather a shortcoming of the protocol DLNAI believe that the TV and Vuze use to talk with each other. Presumably anyone usingthe PC software that Samsung supplies would have the same problem.
Don't Buy From Samsung I chose Samsung because I loved the picture quality which is still unsurpassed in the marketplace at least in 2009.A year and a half later my Samsung TV buzzes each time I press the power on key. Turning it off sometimes gets rid of the buzzing. The Samsung support though is terrible. They list an 800 number for technical support once you dial it though guess what products are excluded from phone support? You guessed it ALL HD TV's! Samsung refers you to their home web page where a tedious questionnaire awaits you. Oh and the live chat function doesn't work because ALL THE TIME it is unavailable due to the high number of calls! There is no email support either. The TV has its own problems besides buzzing. If you have a cable connection mine is Comcast and cable technicians hook the cable to Component 1 or anything but TV on Samsung's source list CLOSED CAPTIONING WILL NOT WORK! Also the time feature is designed very poorly buried in menus one would think the alarm feature would be more accessible.
Great TV One Big Flaw This is a great TV. I agree with the other posters about quality look etc.I also agree that the one BIG FLAW with the TV is that you cannot just dial in a station. We still have rabbit ears yes it's low tech and ridiculous but we use the TV mostly for movies and don't watch a lot and so the antenna has to be in the perfect position then you have to scan to hopefully pick up all the stations. We still have some stations we were getting on our old tube TV with a digital converter that we can't get anymore b/c the scan misses it. As well sometimes stations go missing even if it picked it up initially maybe it autoscans every now and then? who knows. Even if you view it in the Channel manager it still doesn't find it.To be honest I have yet to try the ethernet but that's on my listIt's kind of odd that it has ethernet but I guess they are banking on the future of streaming media. But overall it has all the features audio out big deal as the other Samsung that is cheaper does NOT have audio outbeware! HDMI ports digital monitor port for computers etc. The color is very good but I'm finding faces to be a little washed out at times. Good controls.
Excellent Picturebut no Audio Out adjustment I agree with all of the other reviewers regarding picture quality. Better picture than comparable Sony models in my opinion. But I think it's lame that the audio out signal cannot be controled by the TV's remote control. So you have to use the TV remote for everything except the volume control if you're using external speakers. The volume for your external speakers must be controlled by the external sound system's remote. This is the first TV I've ever owned where the audio out couldn't be controlled by the TV remote.
