  • Horizontal ghost lines on screen after 22 months no help from Sony.. On 02/14/2009 we purchased a Sony Bravia Kdl52W4100 from Sony through Amazon. When we received the TV we were quite happy with the performance and picture quality. Approximately 22 months later my husband noticed two horizontal ghost lines approximately 6 inches from the top of the TV. These ghost lines were also located on the right side of the TV.
Great TV Have had this television for almost two years. Have had nothing but compliments on this TV. Have it paired with a Bose 5.0 surround sound HD Satellite and a PS3 for BluRay. I am not an expert by any means in the audio visual field but I am very pleased with this television. Liked it so much bought the 40 model for the bedroom.
The Best Picture! The W series is the best picture quality of all the Sony series hands down! Bluray movies look insanely realistic. Standerd dvd movies look super crystal clear with a bluray player.
Bad Panel after owning 27 months. The panel on our unit quit working after 27 months of use. I've been reading this is common for this TV. Unsure what the deal is. TV worked fine and then all of the sudden vertical lines appeared on the screen and the general color keeps fading in/out. We have an extended warranty and were told that it will cost $2400 just for the part to fix the bad panel. At this point the warranty company hasn't made a decision as to how to proceed with the problem. We own quite a few Sony products in our home. My husband did a great deal of homework before purchasing the set.
Another victim of the vertical line problem on the Sony KDL52W4100 My Sony BRAVIA WSeries KDL52W4100 started developing the vertical line problem just over the one year warranty period. We have been living with it since the line was fairly faint. Not the line is getting more visible and is very annoying to watch. I used to be a fan of Sony but no longer. I have 3 older Samsung flat panels 2 LCD and 1 Plasma and they are all still providing excellent video.
Avoid this unit at all costs! LCD 52 screen has crapped the bed after just two years of use. After contacting Sony customer support I was informed that my 1 year warranty would NOT cover this issue. They in turn wanted me to spend an additional $600 to purchase a refurbished unit as a replacement. Currently there is a known problem with the Bravia 40 tv's and maybe it doesn't end there. You must be nuts to do business with a company that won't stand behind their craftsmanship.
Buyer beware if considering a Sony TV This is just a fair warning to those considering any Sony TV. I dished out $3000 for a Sony Bravia KDL52XBR4 3 1/2 years ago. In the last few months the TV has developed ghosting images double images and vertical lines throughout the screen. An authorized Sony repairman said I have a bad LCD panel as did the independent tech that Sony sent out. Both commented that it is a common problem with Sony TV's. Cost to replace the LCD panel was quoted to me at over $2400 so Sony's solution was to offer to sell me another Sony at a price only $170 less than I could buy on my own. I am not throwing away good money after bad by rewarding Sony's terrible quality with another Sony purchase. Go to I have a defective Sony TV on facebook. It is monitored with a heavy hand by Sony but it will just give you an idea of the thousands and thousands of defective TV's that Sony has produced. I'm just saying..
Best 52 at the price. I love my TV Had it for 1 year. besides its only 60Hz the price was great $1299.
Do yourself a favor and avoid any Sony TV I bought a new 52 in. XBR9 back in Oct. 2009 for $1900 and the LCD panel has already gone bad after 22 months. Cost to fix = $2800! I called Sony and they could care less! Offered to sell me another set for a reduced price. I wouldn't spend another penny on their products! Need more proof just look at some of the other 1 star reviews on their TVs. I'm not alone.
excelent LCD TV my family love it

    1. Some of the reviews I have read make me not sure, if I want to buy this TV. I have read some really good reviews and then some bad ones. I have been looking for a new HDTV for a while now since I was planning to give my old one to my parents. A co-worker at Dish finally convinced my parents to upgrade to HD, since it is free for life with Dish. I want them to be able to experience HD in the fullest, so I thought I would get a new TV and give them my old one. I have wanted a new HDTV and a bigger one so this one would be nice. Does anyone have another HDTV that could be suggested that would be better than this one?
