  • excellent set This is a really great TV. I have had it for 15 months now and we have had not 1 problem with it. It is the center of my home theatre system. I paid almost $1500 for it and now in 2010 46 LCD's are under $1k. The cost of what it was vs what they are now is the only complaint. It would be nice to have 1 more HDMI port and to have all ports on the bottom of the set but that is OK. Hi Def on comcast looks incredible. I don't have bluray only an upconvert dvd. So my only hidef experience is through comcast Cable. Standard Definition is OK too. It is a little blurry but as you sit farther from the set you don't notice the blur. Overall It does not dissapoint. The sound is OK. If I had to do it all over again I maybe would have gotten the next size up but that is it. The clarity the performance the looks its all great. I highly recommend getting this set. I am more of an audio person and I think this performs. Definately buy it if you find one used.
Fine deal with a caveat This 47 refurbed Samsung 120Hz rates highest on all but one count. This one count is in the units frame design. The plastic frame surrounding the LCD screen is VERY suseptible to mars and scrapes. This refurbed unit showed this flaw clearly. My attempts to clean them without using harsh chemicals was almost useless. Revealing that the plastic is difficult to clean up with just mild soap and water. In its design it would have been better if a much thinner metal frame was used so a mild solvent could be used for any cleaning.
Planned obsolescence at its finest I bought this TV 2 years ago it comes with 12 years parts and labor and my credit card extends the warranty on electronics by another year. At 2 years and 2 months the picture on my tv started to go screwy all at once. The picture would be normal for a while and then suddenly the whole screen would go extremely white and almost wash out completely. I called customer service and they determined it was a hardware issue and because I was out of warranty I would have to pay for the replacement control board and service out of pocket. All in all the cost of the repairs would have been hundreds of dollars. For a device I paid over a thousand dollars for I was pretty frustrated that the product just ceased to function pretty much as soon as the warranty was up. This TV is not well made and not well supported. I don't recommend you buy this unless you are also able to buy it with a long extended purchase protection program.
Horrible Support It was nice while it lasted. It died in July. It is still broken. This is the saga of my still unresolved problem television. I would have never imagined that 3 months would pass and I would still be stuck with a dead television. Every time I think I have turned a corner that will bring me to the end a fixed television it is not so.I should have never purchased a Samsung product. Plain and simple. I know this now. I purchased an LCD television and to make matters worse I purchased it from Sears. This was on 12/19/2009. I was happy. The TV worked and it looked good. Until it didn't. In late July of 2009 the TV would not power on correctly. I called Samsung support because Sear's sales person told me it only had a manufacturer warranty unless I upgraded to theirs. We did some troubleshooting and the technician determined the problem. He said the parts will be shipped to me and I will call a technician who will visit and fix the TV. A week passes and I do not see any parts. I call the repair company Samsung has contracted and they say the parts are back ordered. Okay I wait. I wait a month and I see nothing. I check the status of my ticket online and it says the ticket is canceled. I call the repair company again. They say the parts are still on back order and suggest calling Samsung. I call Samsung and the woman tells me the parts are back ordered. I ask here for an ETA. She says there is none. I ask her what good is my warranty if there are no parts to fix the TV.
Remarkable HDTV I absolutely love this HDTV. I constantly get compliments from people about the amazing picture quality of this television. I'm now looking for a smaller bedroom television and will definitely be sticking with a quality Samsung product such as this.
My Samsung TV Beware! I purchased this TV for Christmas in December of 2008 paying a little over 1300 dollars. No problems for 2 years. Then a little over 2 years later a red shadowy tinge invaded the screen. It was not very distracting at first but has become more prevalent as the months passed. When I noticed the issue in March 2011 I contacted Samsung. They issued a repair ticket but explained that becasue the TV was out of warranty I would be responsible for the repair cost. The repair shop explained that it would be cheaper just to buy a new one than repair this one. He also explained that this is a fairly commion issue with this model. I begrudgingly lived with this until this week. The picture is so bad that the TV is almost unwatcheable at times. I again complained to Samsung and even attached a pic of the screen. I explained that even though the TV is out of warranty Samsung TV's should last for more than 2 years. I asked them to stand by their product. Samsung's responseDear Kevin McconnellThank you for contacting Samsung Electronics. We understand your concern that your TV had developed a red tinge on the screen and we are sorry to inform you thatSamsung or any other company will not stand by the customer if their units are out of warranty.Looking back I would have purchased the extended warranty had I known that the TV would only have 2 years of life. However I paid more for the Samsung brand expecting that the TV would be of better quality than some of the others I looked at.When I get ready to replace this TV it will not be a Samsung and I will fork out the extra dough for the extended warranty.
BLACK SCREEN SYNDROME After one year and half of use the TV's screen goes black. When you turn on the TV around two hours the screen goes black thevideo disappear some time the video comes again you can listen the sound you canchange channels go into menus etc. but no video on the screen. If you turn off the TV and turn ON immediately the problem disappear for few minutes. This TV was always used connected to uninterrupted Power Supply UPS.Now the TV is out of warranty and the representative in my country doesn't give support to equipment they didn't sold so I'm really regretful of bought a SANSAMG TV.
Great picture This TV replaced a 42 insignia LCD. There is no comparison although I only paid $100 more for this than I paid for the Insignia less than 2 years ago.I hadn't planned on replacing my TV since I was not dissatisfied with my old one but the whole time I was beta testing Windows 7 on my media center I could not use the HDMI out. So I took the chance on the problem being with an older TV rather than my newer computer and it paid off. I got to use HDMI again. The picture is crisp very little artifacts. Sports movies everything looks good. I spent the last couple days jumping randomly through my movie collection checking things out at 1080P again and love the results. So bright so crisp all without having to be in torch mode.My Xbox Elite is out for repair so I went and bought a Sony PS3 and some games to try it out with and games are outstanding. For a completely unplanned spur of the moment purchase I am very happy with this unit. I had narrowed myself down to four different brands a Sony a LG another Insignia and this. When I went to the local brick and mortar they had all of the nearby and I was able to direct compare them all with the same source running and this one while more expensive than the others I was looking at more than made up for the minor price difference by having such a noticeably better picture.
bad purchase would have loved to give it zero stars! i bought this tv in december 2008. from day 1 it had problems with pixelation every now and then red and green pixel lines showed up but then disappeared. they appeared with cable with dish network channels and with DVDs. now it's august 2009 and this tv has turned into a completely useless piece of furntiture the screen is entirely red with occasional green and almost no visible image. a diagnostic visit from a place like best buy will cost 150$ on sale cable technicians came out twice and were not sure of the problem. it's just not what i expect of a brand name like samsung i dropped 1500$ on this set and would expect it to work perfectly right out of the box. now 8 months later im already thinking of a new major purchase to save msyelf the headache of dealing with parts technicians diagnostics not to metion the hours of aggravation over the phone with call centers. this time maybe a plasma tv. this was a bad purchase.
Samsung HDTV This tv is great. We are very pleased with the quality of it. We got a great price because it was open box and it is brand new.
