Sony BRAVIA V-Series KDL-40V5100 40-Inch 1080p 120Hz LCD HDTV
Not bad I have a 52 W model in the living room and bought a 40V5100 model for the bedroom. The W model is definitely worth the extra money when you look to get a it all.The prosThe 40V5100 overall just fine for my bedroom.Picture quality is fine.Tuner works great and picks up everything.Menu is easy to navigate.Enough inputs. The consThe sound is has a lot of static noise at lower volumes it's very annoying. The stations don't change as fast as on the W model. You can not edit the names of the stations.Doesn't have all the bells and whistles of a higher end TV.
Great TV This is a great TV! I have never had any of the problems that other people were talking about. The only issue that I seemed to have was when I was watching the movie Batman the night scenes made the whole screen go black. But there are some inbedded menu choices that fixed this issue. Other than that great product.
Sony Bravia VSeries I have had this TV for about 5 weeks and it was easy to set up and the color after some minor adjustments is great. I have owned several Sony TV's and they have all been great. This one rates a 5 star rating also.
issues with the volume I just recently purchase this television and was wondering if anyone has the same problems with the volume? I have a ps3 and am using the HDMI cbl. I was watching a movie and noticed that the volume would go up and low and back up in some scences for the entire movie.
A beautiful television after firmware update I purchased this tv for 825.00$ on display and I cannot find a single flaw with this tv after I received the firmware update through Sony. For an LCD television the blacks are incredible and blurays looked unbelievable!I use my PS3 for games as well and with the GameMode On there is no lag when playing games. You always pay a little more for Sony products but it is well worth it! I compared this television to many other models like Toshiba Samsung and Panasonic and I found the Sony to be the best out there.
disappointed with warranty I've bought sony products for nearly 20 years. if its not sony its yamaha or klipshe. but january 16th of 2010 i bought the kdl40v5100 from ultimate eletronics. november 11th 2010 i noticed a blurr then a sound lost for about 10 seconds. i didn't think it was the tv so i looked past it. for the next couple weeks i noticed the same several more times. december 9th i did as the website instructed to replace my set. a week later i contacted them to ask why i hadn't received any tv and was told that they didn't have a record of my compliant. i then went into ultimate electronic's and had them help me contact sony. they did and i did everything i was told. i was told that i'd receive the tv within a week but nothing happened. since then i've not been able to even receive any responses from sony. the person that sony had handle my complaint had exchanged emails nearly every other day and after my warranty date had pasted i still haven't heard any thing from him or sony. he won't even respond to my email. i've never had a complaint with sony in all these years and now that i have i no longer preach how responsible sony is. its left a very bad feeling with me. the representative's name is joshua.
Can We Just Go Back to the Trinitron? In the past I have always had good luck with Sony TV's and during the 1990's I had a Sony 32 Trinitron that provided a picture and sound that was superb in every respect the state of the art for the time. It was with some disappointment therefore that I found that the TV industry's venture into the Brave New World of HD has saddled an entire generation of TV viewers with substandard sets that are in many respects far worse than the nonHD sets they have replaced. The Sony Bravia series is unfortunately no exception to this rule. The Sony Bravia KDL40V5100 is best when viewing live sports events. If you like to watch golf basketball and football and little else this is the TV for you. Unfortunately the Bravia does not do as well in other situations. Here are some of the flaws I have noticed1 Picture problems. The only settings that produce an acceptable picture are in the Vivid range. Turning off the automatic contrast enhancer helps but the picture quality in most cases is still unacceptable. At its best the picture is sharp and crisp giving great definition but even on many HD channels there is considerable degradation of picture quality with feathering and blurring quite noticeable. The less said about nonHD channels the better. The picture performance in nonHD is abysmal with dark scenes turning black and light scenes whiting out.Similarly no matter what the player nonHD DVDs upconvert poorly. Using an ordinary nonHD TV to play DVDs is a far better choice and an important one if like me you have a large collection of these now obsolete items. Moreover for anyone who has a multisystem nonHD TV set i.e. one that can play PAL and SECAM in addition to the inferior NTSC format used in the USA the picture quality for DVDs is so much better than on the Sony Bravia that there is really no comparison. In addition of course the Sony Bravia series has significant fading problems when viewed from the side and it is grossly inferior in this respect to Plasma and normal nonHD TV sets.2 Screen. The high gloss screen and plastic borders are totally unsuited to TV viewing. A Matte screen and nonglare borders would provide far more comfortable viewing in all but a darkened theater situation. Any light source reflects off the screen and is worse than for a regular nonHD TV. In this respect Plasma TVs are vastly superior.3 Sound. The sound is OK most of the time but there are periodic and inexplicable dropouts as well as hissing and popping problems that are not helped by changing the connections to HDMI. There is something fundamentally wrong with the sound system on the Sony 40V5100 and Sony better fix it fast if they don't want a classaction lawsuit.
Nice picture but Netflix streaming very weak I like the TV but am very disappointed with the internet features. I tried the wireless setup with the Cisco WRT series dual band 5Ghz/2.1Ghz high speed wireless that Sony recommends. A total complete pain to set up. Once set up the TV loses its configuration information periodically so you get the joy of doing it again. It really has trouble establishing connectivity with the wireless router. Once configured Netflix streaming is unwatchable. It stops constantly to buffer. So I switched the network to a Powerline adapter The Cisco router and access interface cost me $250 which was now a waste of money It works much better but I had constant problems with a movie last night.Sony says that this type of problem is with the ISP. But I also have a LG Blueray player that streams Netflix. It is directly connected to the router not through the powerline adapter so there is a speed gain for the connection between the LG player and the router. But the LG player virtually never ever has to stop and rebuffer. It does stop periodically and adjusts to a lower or higher movie encoding bitrate to match what the current network speed conditions. The LG player is simply better at analyzing the network bandwidth and selecting an appropriate encoding so the picture quality will be less than HD at times but at least you can watch without constant interruptions. The Sony wants to lock in on HD and does not adjust even when it is having constant problems keeping the stream alive. This is a Sony problem not an ISP problem.
Great HD TV I've owned this TV for a couple of years now and it is working great and still looks terrific. Notes about the auto contrast were valid but are now irrelevant. The picture is vivid crisp sharp with terrific colors. It's not like watching TV.I have this set connected to DIRECTV a Sony BluRay player and a wireless computer connection so I'm using 3 HDMI inputs. Also I use our Bose to enhance the audio for shows where it matters. Results are all excellentI would recommend this TV.

Dynamic Contrast.Bravia Engine 2 Fully Digital Video.16:9 Full HD 1080P Resolution Panel.Bravia Link Compatibility.Motionflow 120Hz Technology. Review from HomeTheaterMag.com: Sony Bravia KDL-40V5100 LCD HDTV The Sony came in a close second in the judging. Two members of the five-judge panel voted it first overall, and two rated it second. No one really disliked it. I can't say how I might have voted had I been participating blind, but I like to think I would have placed it on top, given my partiality to serious viewing in a darkened room and the resulting need for great black levels. As I noted earlier, the Sony also won raves for its performance with the lights on--although that was a very short part of the test and not included in the scoring.
